18 December 2009 – Our Dogs

Following on from last weeks report on the recent club Open shows, the Best Junior Handlers in Show were: Zoe Bradford at the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club of Scotland and Rhianna Brooks at the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club.Very well done to both you.

Great news from Belgium in that Multi Ch Queen Bless JP Royal Connection has qualified for the Eukanuba World Challenge, Ricky accompanied by Jan Roosens will fly to America to take part, I am sure we all wish them the best of luck.

There was a very good turn out for The South of England Papillon Club’s Christmas Party match at Chieveley. Kirtsy Wells and Amanda Brown, were in the kitchen from first light Roasting Turkey, boiling puddings and adding copious amounts of alcohol to the Brandy sauce. We started off with the Baby Puppy walk which is always a delight, and it must be said there are some very promising youngsters waiting in the wings, the confidence of some of these puppies is amazing, it being the first time many have left the security of home. The Knock-out match drew a very good entry for Judge Sue Obbard and kept her busy most of the day. We broke for lunch at 1.00pm when the excellent Christmas dinner was served; spot prizes of money and other goodies were given out and right on cue Santa and his helper Mama Holly arrived with gifts for everyone, including the dogs. The wine flowed and generally a good time was had by all. Hazel Fairall was the guest of honour as she was celebrating her 90th birthday, and she was presented with gifts and a cake with 90 candles, luckily the flames did not set off the fire alarm. After lunch we continued the judging,  Best in Match went to Anne Borg’s dog and Best puppy and Reserve Best in Match went to Mr & Mrs Brunsdon’s Puppy with Carol Wilson’s Puppy RBIM. The young handlers did a grand job with one of the youngest I have ever seen in the ring: Grace, found it easier to actually stand on the judging table with her dog!. The Fancy Dress parade brought festivities to a close, with just time for a mince pie and cuppa before members made their way home. As always members were very generous with their cash and the club’s welfare account will receive a goodly sum from the profits.

Some good Open show wins this week : at Exonian CA  Mr Steve Rose judged the breed and found, Best of Breed – Panspayon Paige, Reserve Best of Breed- Panspayon Olivanda Best Puppy in Breed: Panspayon Paige who went on tot ake Puppy Group 2 under Mrs Rita Morgan. Many Congratulations to all the winners this week.

With the year coming to an end, it will soon be time to think about sending in your Club membership subscriptions for next year, Clubs do rely on these subs to enable them to function so please send back your renewal forms with you subscription when they arrive.

A date for Diary next year: The South of England Papillon Club will be holding their Education day in conjunction with their AGM on the 20th March 2010 at Chieveley, they will be presenting the Kennel Club’s Conformation and Movement Seminar, this is a requirement for aspiring judges to progress through the judging lists, places will be restricted to 25 persons, flyers will be going out to all members after Christmas.
