| Dog World | Some news this week from two of our Breed Clubs. Phil Shirley, Secretary of the South of England Papillon Club writes with news of next year's calendar for the Club. It looks like yet another full year for Club Members. Phil says "The South of England Papillon Club announce their programme of events for next year, but firstly the final event for this year is the ever popular Christmas Party/ Match, this takes place at Chieveley on the 15th December. It will take the usual format with a 2 course roast Christmas lunch with all the trimmings which will be served at 1.00pm, the Match will start at 11.30am , there will be a baby puppy walk and also a Fancy Dress parade. Each year Santa has made an appearance with gifts for everyone including the dogs, this event is limited to 70 persons, so be sure to get your bookings in to avoid disappointment (club members will receive their booking flyer shortly). For 2008 the Club plans the following: the A.G.M.will be on the morning of 3rd May then in the afternoon the club has challenged the South Wales Papillon Club to a Charity Challenge Match (either the dogs or either Club can be sponsored for this lighthearted event, with all proceeds going to Charity) There will be lunch available before the Match starts . The Open show will be held on the 17th May at Chieveley with Mr J. Fothergill judging the breed and Mrs J Gummer judging the Welfare classes and the JHA classes. The Fun-day garden party combined with the clubs second Limited Agility Show will take place on 19th July at Bradfield. The Club will hold a Papillon Education Day at Chieveley on the 11th October and finally the Christmas Party/Match will be on the 7th December." The South Wales Papillon Club held a Show Handling Seminar on Sunday 21 October at Caerwent and Sue Allen has been kind enough to send me the following report. "The Club would like to thank Sophie Langdon for her time and effort in making the day such a success. The trainers, Alex Paisey - Basic Juniors, Sophie Langdon - Advanced Juniors, and James Thornton - Ringcraft did an excellent job, keeping both participants and dogs focused and motivated. The atmosphere said it all with everyone happy and commenting on how much they were enjoying themselves, not to mention the high quality training they had received. The dogs were very well behaved as were the younger handlers for whom it was a long day. Refreshments were served throughout the day to keep energy levels up. All participants were keen to be informed when the next training day will be held. A successful day all round. Look out for photographs on South Wales Papillon Club Website website." As I have mentioned recently the South Wales Club web site has had a makeover and is well worth a visit especially now photos of this event are to be published on it. The web address is http://www.southwalespapclub.co.uk/. Certainly the event was a success judging by the complimentary comments made in papnet. Well done to the S Wales Club for putting on this interesting and useful seminar. Only one set of show results this week coming from the Portadown show in Ireland. GSB and BOB went to Marion Sloan's Tedlyn Silver Star, GSD to Diane Mooney's Omaonaig Grey Swallow, RGSB to James Newman and Sean Carroll's Denemore Icon's Butterfly, no RGSD appears to have been awarded.. In Phalenes GSD and BOB went to Marion Sloan's Sunshoo Imawill Scarlet Gleniren, GSB to Diane Mooney's Aporia Chiassoso, no other phalenes present so no RGS's awarded. |
| Our Dogs | The seminar held by the the South Wales Papillon Club, which took the form of a Show handling day, was held last weekend in Caerwent. From what I have heard it was a great success and by everyones comments it looks like it may become a regular event in the South Wales calendar. There were classes for begginer and advanced junior handlers, along with ringcraft training for those no longer able to call themselves "Juniors". The classes were run by three senior YKC members: Sophie Langdon, Alex Paisey and James Thornton, who showed great expertise and certainly worked everyone very hard, helping both handlers and dogs in areas they needed improvement. Sophie Langdon and Sue Allen worked tremendously hard to organise the day - Sue supplied lovely refreshments too. There was an excellent attendance with some participants travelling a considerable distance, everyone enjoyed the day. Well done South Wales , I think this is an area where everyone can benefit from some extra training, more especially with the high standard in the show ring, although im no fan of over-handling, that extra bit of presentation can take the edge in a close run class. News from Germany: Alla and George Jenkins, showing Jean and Roger Banfields and Jan Roosens; Multi CH Amicae Star Charm at Kingshaven completed his Swiss Championship, "Robert" bred by Mr. and Mrs. Whitehill, has already attained both the Gernam Championship titles along with Swedish Ch and International Championship. Many congratulations. I was saddened to read a first time CC judges critique recently, in the preamble it was a shame to read the judge had to comment on spiteful comments overheard during judging. I really do think if you have, like we all have at times, problems with the placings, then the decent thing is to go to speak to the judge after the judging is finished. Any Judge worth their salt should be quite prepared to discuss their placings as long as the enquiry is is not aimed at them from someone acting like a bull in a China shop. Just as you may see certain virtues and faults, the Judge may see something quite different and just trashing the Judge because your "perfect" little dog didn't win is neither pleasant nor necessary. There is a strict protocol in the case of genuine complaints and if you really feel strongly you have been agrieved then the correct proceedure is to go to the Secretary and make an official complaint. On a lighter note, this reminds me of the case where someone once won VHC from a judge and not being terribly pleased, after judging they went and asked the judge what he thought of the dog, the judge said it was "very nice", the exhibitor said " but you only gave him VHC" the judge replied "Thats right, I've never seen him look better!".......................says it alll really. |

| Dog World | The Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club are holding a breed specific seminar & A3 assessment on Sunday the 3rd of February 2008 at Finningley Village Hall South Yorkshire. Running order is as follows 9.30am Registration & tea, coffee & biscuits; 10.00am seminar presented by Mrs A Richardson; 12.00 noon Lunch; 12.45pm A3 assessment; For further details phone Jim Robins on 01909 479672 or email jaromapaps[at]btinternet[dot]com Congratulations to Elizabeth Cochrane who I understand has recently become a grandmother to a little girl Rebecca who arrived at a healthy 7lb 5oz. Congratulations also to parents Jane and Mike. Mentioning Elizabeth reminds me that I recently reported that her Tijuana Victoria had gained the Bitch CC at Darlington and that I thought this might be her first. In fact it was her second - I had overlooked her first CC at the Northern and Eastern Counties Club Show in 2005. Some more successes for the breed around the Open Shows. Anna Fraser's Northlyte Timeless At Bonmeshay JW took BIS at the North of Scotland Toydog show having less than two weeks earlier taken BIS at the Scottish Toydog Show. A super achievement - I understand that he has also now taken his ShCM title at just 14 months of age. And at the other end of the UK Nigel Cook and his wife took BPIS at the East Kent Canine Society Show with their Bedellus Rave On To Julandia. I understand they have been breeding and showing Toy Poodles for many years and that this is their first papillon. |
| Our Dogs | Now I know I am always pushing for you to send in your Open Show results, well this week we have some really good results. |

| Our Dogs | Well, dear breed members - here we are again! Phil (with any luck having beaten the French transport strike by leaving two days early) may even now be boarding ship at Genoa—here's hoping he has as good a time as last year! For those of us left behind in the frost and snow, at least we have shows to go to! Last show was, of course, the Northern & Eastern championship show—a brilliant show as usual, and in a great venue: it was the club's second time there, but a first for me, and it is a sumptuous place—entirely dog-orientated. Huge space for rings, with an excellent non-slip cork-based floor, plenty of room round the rings, with glass partitions for all-round vision. The venue is called 'Mypetstop Pet Resort and Care Centre' and is a large complex entirely given over to pets — outdoor kennels, indoor vets' offices, a hydrotherapy pool (complete with exercising dogs suspended in it), pet-shops, pet-food-shops, and some people-food as well. Philip Shirley judged dogs and Alan Bendelow bitches, and their winners were: DCC and BIS, Rutten's Up and Downs Frederike (Multi Ch. Antony ex Pepejas Lady Smaragd); BCC (her third - many congratulations), Austin & Thompson's Jhanakia Highland Breeze (Inixia French Resistance At Rayol ex Pinelan Golden Starlight); RDCC (from Junior), Fraser & Graham's Northlyte Timeless At Bonmeshay (Frasermar Blizzard ex Abbeyton Catch The Dream); RBCC, Robins' Jaroma Lady Of The Glen (Jhanakia Monarch Of The Glen ex Mariposa Pollyanna At Jaroma). Best Puppy was Langdon's C'est Ma Souris Shadowknight (Ch Inixia Wily Willum ex Christea Midnight Rose for Skyvana), and Best Veteran was Ch Inixia So Be It For Elendil (Inixia Party Pooper ex Azinghar Perfect Bliss At Inixia). Congratulations to all: Phil says he will get his report in as soon as (electronically!) possible. A lovely show, and worth driving a long way for! At the other end of the country, it was a good win for Denise Welsh's Heruman Mountain Breeze For Kazim (better known as Katie!), who, at her first show (at just six months), won Best AV Toy Puppy at Hastings Limit show. Well done her! The only other news at the moment is a message from the secretary of the South-East Counties Toy Dog Show: they have to change the date of their Special Diamond Anniversary Open Show and Limited Toy Obedience Show to Saturday, 24 May 2006. Schedules will be posted to members at the beginning of March. To celebrate their 60 years they are looking for photos of past shows which you may have—to borrow and put on display at the show. If you are a past exhibitor, and have any photos of past SECTDS shows in your archives, you may like to forward them to the Secretary, Mrs Rebecca Viner, Low Wood, 32 Woodhill Avenue, Gerrards Cross, Bucks SL9 8DS, with details of the year the photo was taken, and with your address so that photos can be returned. They would be very grateful, and it would be a nice way of looking back on old times. I can remember exhibiting at their shows when they were held at the very fancy Portchester Hall, in the middle of London, all velvet drapes and gold leaf. Back in the I'm-not-saying-when, for fear of revealing my age... Please do keep me informed of any news—my address and phone number are still the same, but I have a new email (slightly more reliable than the last one, though only just!) |
