| Dog World | I was sorry to hear that Viv Cotton had recently had a nasty fall. Having had an appointment at the Rheumatology Clinic Viv decided to pop into town to do a little shopping and on returning to her car managed to trip. The result was within a short time of leaving the hospital she was on her way back in an ambulance and the result was a badly bruised and grazed face and a broken arm!! It is going to be at least a month before there can be any thoughts of the sling coming off. As well as having to undergo some painful physiotherapy having only one arm to use makes looking after the dogs twice as difficult. Let's hope the arm heals without any more problems. At the Limerick & DCC Championship Show BOB & GSD went to Newman & Munn's Jap. Ch. Smileline Covergirl Immortal Gene, GSB to the late Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Icons Butterfly and RGSD to Jean Leverett's Glasafon Succession. RGSB was withheld. At Tralee & DCC Ch. Show BOB & GSD was Jap. Ch. Smileline Covergirl Immortal Gene, GSB was Denemore Icons Butterfly and RGSD Jean's Glasafon Royal Welsh. Again there appears to have been no RGSB awarded. Also in Ireland I hear that Diane Mooney's Connysluck Magic Flute is now officially an IKC Champion. Magic Flute was of course bred by Connie Letch and is I believe Connie's first ever title holder so I am sure she will be thrilled. At SKC Bitch CC and BOB went to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, Dog CC went to Amy Mason's Thoughts of Stardom at Amsema which I believe is his first, Res Bitch CC to Elizabeth Cochrane's Tijuana Victoria and Res Dog CC to John Turner's Bodebi Rhythm Is A Dancer. BP went to Mrs Finlayson's Sharjoy Back the Future. Some news from the Open Show scene. At the Coventry and Foleshill CA show Jo Davidson Poston's Powdermill Sweet Touch Spinillons took BOB. Group 1 and RBIS, he was of course bred by Ruth and Ann Weston. And at Salisbury & South Wilts Brian & Pat Cox's 8 month old puppy Wish for the Moon over Tricianbri took BP and BOB, Group 2 and Best Toy puppy |
| Our Dogs | The final show from the Munster Circuit was at Tralee, Judge: Mr.B.Harris (New Zealand) his winners were: BOB & GSD - Jap. Ch. Smileline Covergirl Immortal Gene, RGSD - Glasafon Royal Welsh, GSB - Denemore Icons Butterfly. Jap. Ch. Smileline Covergirl Immortal Gene and Denemore Icons Butterfly, doing the “Double” took the Green Stars at all four shows, I am sure this is some kind of record, now the IKC have altered their Championship requirement I don’t know if they now become Irish Champions with these wins, perhaps someone could let me know. At the August S.K.C. Ch. Show, Mr B W Cadogan judged the breed and found his principle winners in:BCC and BOB: CH GLENIREN STARLIGHT KISSES (MRS I & MR G ROBB), RBCC: TIJUANA VICTORIA (MRS E COCHRANE), DCC: THOUGHTS OF STARDOM AT AMSEMA JW (MISS A MASON), RDCC: BODEBI RHYTHM IS A DANCER (MR J W & THE LATE MR G TURNER), Best Puppy: SHARJOY BACK TO THE FUTURE (MRS J FINLAYSON). CH GLENIREN STARLIGHT KISSES taking her eighteenth CC on the day was short-listed in the Toy Group. Congratulations to all the winners. Lots of news this week: Denise Welsh sent some Agility news about a young lad, Dean Williams who has been doing very well in Agility with a lovely little Papillon called Daisy (Lozek Daisy May), Denise watched him last year starting up and this year the work certainly has paid off: winning Junior Agility and Junior Jumping at the UKA week show earlier this month, plus winning lots of other places both at the Kennel Club International Festival and Dogs in Need Agility shows. Congratulations Dean keep up the good work. Margy Wigan had some good news from Ireland, Margy bred a puppy last year called Murvagh Finn McCool and sent him over to Mrs C Lloyd in Ireland who wanted a Papillon for Obedience training, Mrs Lloyd also works Collies. “Finn” at 11 months (competing in Novice) went to his very first show a couple of weeks ago which was a Championship Show and out of a class of 36 dogs all Collies and larger, he came a very creditable 6th, The grass was rather long and I was amused to read “Finn” had to be called back to heel after having to deal with a Dandelion which got caught in his trousers, (I wonder if Bicycle clips are allowed?) seriously, well done to “Finn” I hope we hear more of him. An Obedient Papillon is a rare sight…………… Over in France, Virginie Lemoine’s: Whispering Valley Farah D-Bah (bred by Monia Wergård) took her second CAC at the National Show in Romorantin under Judge; Mrs Van Brempt (Belgium), this was exciting news for Sue Morrell and Thesbina Teague as “Farah” is by Temelora Sparkling Peri and a granddaughter of Ch. Serenglade Sebastian for Temelora. I am delighted to say I have been invited to Judge the Championship Club Show of the Papillon and Phalene Club of the Netherlands next month in Heteren near Nijmegen. Having been a member of the club for many years it really is a great honour to be invited. Being my first time judging overseas under the F.C.I. rules it is quite interesting to study the F.C.I standard which has some slight (and some not so slight) differences to that of our KC standard. It will be a very interesting exercise and I do think the F.C.I. method where by every dog is given a formal written critique, which is handed to the owners at the show is a superior method to our own where often only the first couple of placed dogs in the class are given a written critique and that always supposes the critiques are actually sent to the Dog Papers, which as we all know is not always the case. I will let you know how I got on after the event. Some great Open show results this week: at Coventry and Foleshill CA, Jo Davidson-Postons: Powdermill Sweet Touch Spinillons won BOB under Karen Maskell, the Toy Group under Des Jenkins and then went on to win RBIS under Mark James, not to be outdone: Spinillons Isadora also won BPIB and Puppy Group 4 This must have cheered up Jo immensely as she is still recuperating from Surgery, her dogs where shown by Rosemary Ayris. At Salisbury and South Wilts Open Show: Pat and Brians Cox’s: Wish for the Moon over Tricianbri (Squirrel), went BOB and Best Puppy under Mrs Wendy Brenton (Wendmere), Group 2 and Best Puppy in Group under Miss C G Greenall (Charlesworth), and Best Puppy in Show under Mr C Bexon (Oldfields). I must admit to having a soft spot for Squirrel who is a very fine dainty girl with a bomb proof nature, I first saw her as a very baby puppy and was tempted to “pocket her” there and then and take her home. I am sure she has a great show career ahead. Carol Westwood was delighted that her Dolcissimo Just a Flirst at Darleair ShCM went through to Reserve Best in Show at North and South Shields CA Open show. Congratulations all round. Finally some exciting news for all Papillon exhibitors from the Kennel Club: As all five Breed clubs will enjoy Championship status from 2009, the General Committee of the KC have decided to offer an additional set of CC's for a "Joint Breed Club's Championship Show" for Papillons for 2010. These extra CC's can be used in one of two ways: Either rotating them around the five clubs enabling each club to hold an extra Championship show in their year of rotation, or: The Licence issued in the name of one club but used to run a Championship show on behalf of all the five clubs. This is excellent news for Papillons, where some breeds are having CC's taken from them, to have an extra set offered over and above the full allocation is quite an achievement. Keep the news coming. |

| Our Dogs | At City of Birmingham Ch. Show, Mr P. Taylor judged the breed and found his principle winners in: Dog CC and BOB: SCOVELL Mrs J. Ch Caswell Classic Tri, Res Dog CC: FARRELL Miss K. Bluejays Shadow Warrior, Bitch CC: DAVIDSON-POSTON Mrs J. Ch Ibstock Tululah For Spinillons, Res Bitch CC: ROBB Mrs I & Mr G Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, Best Puppy: MILLWARD, Misses C & LEIPER Mr & Mrs B Joneca First Edition For Alouann NAF TAF. Congratulations to all the winners, especially to MILLWARD, Misses C & LEIPER Mr & Mrs B: Joneca First Edition For Alouann NAF TAF who won through to Puppy group 3. Next some excellent overseas news for the Gleniren/Sunshoo show-team: they exported Ch. Sunshoo Imascarlet Oscars for Gleniren to the New Zealand kennel of Steve and Tania Botlik of the Pillango Kennel, Oscar soon became an NZ Champion and was recently crowned the First ever: New Zealand Grand Champion I am not too sure of the requirements for this prestigious title but think it involves the Dog winning over 50 CC’s and at least 3 Best in Show wins, I believe Oscar has already taken 6 B.I.S, Steve and Tania must be thrilled, I have spoken with them many times on the phone in the past and they are such nice people, I am thrilled for them. Further good news from overseas, Jerry and Brendon of the Papplewick Kennel exported Papplewick Pigeon Post to Margot Hornqvist of the Swedish kennel: Candygolds, he went to the Swedish Kennel Club Show in Oland and took his first CC. News form Ireland is that Carroll/Newman's: Jap Ch Smileline Covergirl Immortal Gene took his final green star to gain his Irish Championship. Not much news this week - hopefully I will be at Richmond tomorrow so I expect to pick up a few snippets, lets hope Wellie boots will not be required. |

| Dog World | At the City of Birmingham it was another CC and BOB for Jenny Scovell's home bred Ch Caswell Classic Tri. Bitch CC went to Jo Davidson Poston's Ch Ibstock Tululah For Spinillons bred of course by Rosemary Ayris, Reserves went to Karen Farrell's Bluejays Shadow Warrior in dogs and in bitches to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses. BP was Mr & Mrs B Leper and Miss C Millward's First Edition For Alouann NAF TAF who went on to take Puppy G3 . At Richmond Dog CC and BOB went to Sue Stanbury's Inixia Crown Jewel with Bitch CC going to Sandra Austin and Jane Thomson's Jhanakia Highland Breeze - I am not sure but I think this may be first CC's for both of these, no doubt someonle wiul correct me if I am wrong. Reserves went to Mark Whitehill's Frasermar Lost For Words At Martika and Reserve Bitch CC to the late Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Icon's Butterfly. BP was Jo Davidson Poston's Spinillons Isadora. Yet again our Juniors did the breed proud at the semi finals of the JHA Handler of the Year, for the second year running papillon Juniors took 1st in both classes. In the 6-11 years class Amelia Whipps took 1st place with Kaitlyn Boal taking 4th and in the 11-16 years class Fran McWade took 1st place. Amelia and Fran will go on the finals in Birmingham in January to complete with the other group winners where the Top Junior Handler will be chosen to represent the UK at Crufts. Congratulation to all concerned for again keeping the pap flag flying. Jerry Munroe and Brendan Olding had some more good news from Sweden where Papplewick Pigeon Post won his first CC at the Swedish Kennel Club Show. George as he was known was only beaten by FCI Int Champion Denemore Noble Perfection who went Best of Breed and BIG-2. At the Banbridge and District Canine Club in Ireland GSD and BOB went to Carroll and Newman's Jap Ch Smileline Covergirl Immortal Gene, this win giving him his Irish Title, RGSD was Beck's Baladora Sleek But Sheek, GSB the late Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Icon's Butterfly and RGSB Stone's Parnassus Perfect Joy Sadly Jeanette Mackay, who has not had the best of times lately, has lost her 16 year old Baskell Morning Star. Zara as she was known was Jeanette's papillon and helped introduce Jeanette to the breed. Always sad to lose an older one and perhaps more so when it is a special one like one's first. The Papillon (Butterfly Dg) Club announce that Pauline Wilson has been co-opted as Acting Cup Steward, Pauline can be contacted on 07964 282 327. Also Jean Banfield has agreed to take on the position of Show Secretary - this is a new position and is a non committee position. Jean can be contacted on 0117 940 7000 for details of the shows and show schedules. Finally sadly Diane Money has had to withdraw from her judging appointment at the next Open Show due to the illness of her husband. We all hope he makes a speedy recovery. meantime Diane's appointment will be taken by Tony Allcock. Finally the KC have announced that our breed has been allocated another set of CC's with effect from 2010 and presumably because there are no general championship shows at which the breed does not have CC's this set will be offered to the breed Clubs. As all our Clubs have CC status these CC's can be used in one of two ways: Either rotating them around the five clubs enabling each club to hold an extra Championship show in their year of rotation. or: The License issued in the name of one club but used to run a Championship show on behalf of all the five clubs. |
| Our Dogs | It was great to be able to get Richmond Ch. Show last week and to catch up with everyone, more so because the weather was fabulous, really quite hot. I do like the venue of Loseley Park, but as it is now our nearest Ch. Show since Southern Counties went off to Newbury, I guess I am a bit biased. Firstly many congratulations to all the Junior Handlers in the breed, they all work so hard throughout the year and competing in the JHA Semi-Finals at Richmond is one of the highlights for them. This year again our Juniors did us proud, In the younger age group 6 – 11 years: First place went to Amelia Whipps and 4th Place went to Kaitlyn Boal, in the 12 –16 years: First place went to Fran McWade and 3rd place went to Clare Butler. With four Papillon junior handlers in the top awards, it just shows the quality of handling our juniors can produce. Amelia and Fran (along with their mothers) had smiles on their faces all day. They now go forward to the finals, held in Birmingham in January to complete with the other group winners where the Top Junior Handler will be chosen to represent the UK at Crufts. In the breed ring Mr J. Ness had drawn a very good entry, with some well filler classes, he found his principle winners in: Dog CC and BOB: STANBURY Mrs S. Inixia Crown Jewel, Res Dog CC: WHITEHILL Mr M. Frasermar Lost For Words At Martika, Bitch CC: THOMPSON, Mrs J & AUSTIN Mrs S. Jhanakia Highland Breeze, Res Bitch CC: KAVANAGH (The Late) Mrs W. Denemore Icon's Butterfly, Best Puppy: DAVIDSON-POSTON Mrs J. Spinillons Isadora. Congratulations to all the winners. For those of you with Web access, Elizabeth Patrick, keeps the web-site of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) of Scotland updated with pictures and results of the shows she attends and very professionally too, this time Elizabeth has even managed to get a video clip included of the BOB challenge at Richmond, how things are moving on, perhaps soon we will sit at home and watch all the judging live! For those of you that have not visited the Scottish site the address is www.scotpapnews.blogspot.com . Ann Richardson passed on this information from Dorothy Simpson who is having computer problems: The Northern & Eastern Pap Club 2008 calendars are now available; please find Alan or me at Darlington, Driffield & Midland Counties either to collect pre-paid calendars or those previously ordered which need to be paid for, (cheques are fine, payable to N&E PAPILLON CLUB please). We will have some calendars for sale- but find us early! Dorothy also says that when you open your calendar envelope, please be careful that you see the enclosed flyer with Ch show dates- the Kennel Club didn’t release all the judges names to Dorothy until after the calendar had gone to press. The Secretary of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club asked me to post the following information: the appointment of the Club's newest co-opted Committee Member & Acting Cup Steward is Mrs Pauline Wilson who can be contacted on 07964 282 327 and a new position of Show Secretary which will be a non committee position - Mrs J Banfield who can be contacted on 0117 940 7000 for details of the shows and show schedules. Mrs D Mooney has, unfortunately, had to withdraw from judging the next Open show - 18th November - and in her place Mr Tony Allcock M.B.E has been appointed. |

| Dog World | The Northern & Eastern Pap Club 2008 calendars are now available. Pre paid orders can be collected from Ann and Alan Richardson at Darlington, Driffield or Midland Counties. Those of you who have ordered but not paid can also collect them from Ann and Alan - cheques made payable please to N&E PAPILLON CLUB. As I mentioned before there are still some copies available but these will go fast so if you have not ordered and do want one (as we all do) then please make sure you see Ann and Alan earlier rather than later or contact them or Dorothy Simpson at home. When you get your Calendar please be careful when opening the envelope as there is a flyer enclosed with Ch Show dates for 2008 which were not available when the calendar went to print. Tony Allcock has asked the Breed Note writers if they would correct a mistake that appeared in his report of the Southampton Open Show on 16 June in Papillons. His Best of Breed was of course Stanbury & Unwin's Inixia Dream's Magic, and not as printed. Also, part of Magic's critique appeared against the winner of the Graduate class, and vice versa. Apologies to all. I am pleased to have some agility news to print thanks to Denise Welsh who tells me that a little papillon called Tonring Just a Puzzle has taken the agility world by storm. Denise says he is the fastest small dog she has have ever seen and the best news is that he is a papillon, a little black and white dog standing around 10" high. He has won 20 classes in around three months of competing and is only 21 months old now. (You cannot start to compete until the dog is 18 months old). He has qualified for the knockout at Crufts - he won the class; he has qualified for the Olympia semis; has won both the novice classes in the KC Int festival. He is apparently winning classes 3 - 4 seconds faster then the second dog - at UKA he was 14 seconds faster then the second dog. Denise is extremely excited at this young dog's potential as can be seen and more so as she has used him on her Angel (Bedellus Heaven Sent to Kazim) who is a nice little agility girl herself - the scan says she has at least three pups so Denise has everything crossed for 28th Sept. I am sure Denise will keep us informed as to this young dog's progress and we look forward to reading of more success for him. I have been asked to print the following on behalf of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club. "It has come to our notice that a unknown quantity of Summer Newsletter may have been sent out to Members with the photo missing from page 17 and possibly with pages 19/20 and 25/26 missing. It only came to notice when the Editor picked her own copy up from the last box after posting the last lot of newsletters out. The Printers did not notice this when they did their random spot check on various copies. It is not known if each box contained a number of these incomplete Newsletters. If it was contained to only the last box used, then unfortunately these copies have gone to our overseas members with a small number to home members. We ask all members who have been affected to please contact the Editor direct theeditor@papillonclub.co.uk then we will know the extent of the problem. All paid up members, home and abroad, have had their newsletters sent. Should you not received your copy and you believe you are a paid up member for this year, please contact the Treasurer thetreasurer@papillonclub.co.uk who will then check his records and inform the Editor to send a copy out, if it is found you have inadvertently been missed off the list. Those of you who asked to have your newsletter 'online' do have to sign yourself in to receive them by going to the Club website and following the directions there. You will see a 'Flyer' enclosed with the newsletter. Those of you who wish to take up the Club's Fund Raiser of having your Kennel Name put on the Display Table cloth, please make your cheques payable to The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club and send it together with your Kennel Name, written in capital letters, to the Fund Raiser Organiser - Graham Fitch 7 Icknield Way, Warden Hills, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU3 2BT. For further details, please contact Graham direct - contact details are on the flyer. Those of you who agree to have your details on the Membership List, please return the form that is enclosed with the Newsletter to the Treasurer Douglas Colyer at the address shown on the form. Please note that emails cannot be used in this case." At the Carlow & DCC Ch. Show BOB & GSD went to Sean Carroll & James Newman's Jap Ch Smileline Cover Girl Immortal Gene, RGSD to Diane Mooney's Omaonaig Fire Bird, GSB to the late Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Icons Butterfly and RGSB to Marion Sloan's Tedlyn Silver Star. Phalenes were classified BOB & GSD went to Marion Sloan's Sunshoo I'm A Will Scarlet Gleniren and Marion also took GSB with Austrene Hollywood Calling Carasweet and RGSB with Sunshoo I'm A Special Edition Gleniren, RGSD went to Diane's Omaonaig Sea Bird At Darlington Dog CC and BOB went to Irene Robb's UK / Fin/ Bel Ch Siljans My Man, Bitch CC went to Elizabeth Cochrane's Tijuana Victoria - bred by Queenie Bruce I believe this is her first CC although she has a number of Reserves to her credit. Res Dog CC went to Caitlin Leiper's Amicae Hide And Seek, Res Botch CC to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses and BP to Jo Davidson Poston's Spinillons Isadora. It certainly was a show to remember for Irene and Glenn as their Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses won the Pedigree Champion Stakes outright for the show so she will now go to the final in January and their eight month old puppy Gleniren Dancing Queen Sunshoo won the Pro Plan Puppy Stakes for the day. It is good to see a papillon in the finals again - I am not sure when this last happened. Also at Darlington Tom and Pat Urwin's Paparottsie Painted Lady won the Bitch Special Beginners Stakes and then beat the dog winner to win the Stakes for that day. Congratulations to them for this win. |
| Our Dogs | I have received the schedule for the Ch. Show of the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club, to be held on 11th November at Tingley, West Yorkshire. I feel very honoured to have been invited to judge Dogs at this show, Mr A Bendelow will judge Bitches, the Referee will be Mrs J Grant, the show has a lot of “Specials” on offer, if you would like a schedule, contact Mr J Edson on 01757 268213. Mr Tony Allcock M.B.E. has asked the Breed Note writers if they would correct a mistake that appeared in his report of the Southampton Open Show on 16th June in Papillons. His Best of Breed was of course Stanbury & Unwin's Inixia Dream's Magic, and not as printed. He qualified for the Olympia semi-finals, won both the novice classes in the KC International festival. This dog is winning classes 3 - 4 seconds faster then the second dog, at UKA he was 14 seconds faster then the second dog. At this rate he will be a grade 7 by the middle of next year, then there are the Championships”. Well done to this speedy fellow, it will be interesting to watch his progress. The Following came from the Secretary of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club: “It has come to our notice that an unknown quantity of Summer Newsletters may have been sent out to Members with the photo missing from page 17 and possibly with pages 19/20 and 25/26 missing. Ch, Show in Ireland, she found her winners in: Papillons, BOB & GSD - Jap Ch Smileline Cover Girl Immortal Gene, RGSD - Omaonaig Fire Bird, GSB - Denemore Icons Butterfly, RGSB - Tedlyn Silver Star. In Phalenes: BOB & GSD - Sunshoo I'm A Will Scarlet Gleniren, RGSD - Omaonaig Sea Bird, GSB - Austrene Hollywood Calling Carasweet, RGSB - Sunshoo I'm A Special Edition Gleniren. A very happy Marian Sloan sent the following: “ I have just heard from Carrine Rutten, that Austrene Academy Award has today won his French CAC speciale, CACIB and BOB to give him his French Title, to add to his Dutch., Lux., Belgium, German and International Titles. He is litter brother to Austrene Hollwood Calling Carasweet who won the green star at Carlow, Ireland yesterday. They are both Phalenes, by Ir.Ch Austrene Imelectric ex U.K.Ch Ir.Ch. Int.Ch Sunshoo Imamovie Premiere”. Many congratulations Marian. Now we have a marathon of results from Darlington Ch. Show, firstly in the Breed ring Mrs C Urquhart was judging and found her principle winners in: Team “Gleniren / Sunshoo” had a great day at Darlington, with not only winning the DCC & BOB also the RBCC. Irene had taken along a Celebration cake, as it was Glenns Birthday also to celebrate Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses “Coming of age” as she has gained 18 CCs! However at the end of the day they were thrilled to bits as Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses won the Pedigree Champion Stakes outright for the show so she will now go to the finals in January. This is great news for Papillons, to be represented at the finals of this prestigious event. Not to be outdone their Puppy who is just eight months old, Gleniren Dancing Queen Sunshoo won the Pro Plan Puppy Stakes for the day. In the Brace Stakes, Mrs Burns Papillons were reserve. Miss C Leiper’s, Amicae Hide And Seek was 3rd in the RCC Stakes. Finally I am always amused to see the Show holds the “The Portable Conveniences” Open Stakes, with the size of the entries in the Stakes classes this could be a very useful piece of equipment in the ring! |
