| Dog World | A note from Phil Shirley Secretary of the South of England Papillon Club. Unfortunately too late for the closing date but nonetheless I a sure a lot of folk will be interested in attending the event. "For all you Runners and Jumpers, the entries close next week for the First ever Papillon Limited Agility Show organised by the South of England Papillon Club, it will be held in conjunction with the Clubs Fun-Day at Bradfield on the 21st July. For further details of the Agility show call Denise Welsh on 01323 441583 or check out www.Agilitynet.com for a schedule. For details of the Fun-Day, contact myself (Phil) or check out www.southpapclub.co.uk We will have all the usual events and goings-on which start on completion of the Agility Show, this year along with all the other stalls, we have a Doggie Market Stall that will sell (for a commission to welfare) your unwanted doggie items for you, if you have beds, cages, trolleys or any doggie stuff you no longer require just bring them along. There will be the usual all in Buffet with a selection of lovely home-made dishes, free tea and coffee all day. Just come along and have some fun." At Blackpool & District Canine Society two new champions were made up each I believe a first in the breed for their respective owners. Dog CC and BOB went to John Turner's Bodebi Rhythm Is A Dancer and I am sure it must have been a bitter sweet moment without Gary there. Bitch CC went to Joe Magri's Frasermar Fairy Tale Of Rozamie. Reserves went to Pat Beadle's Bodebi Success Story for Bedellus Shcm in dogs and in bitches to Elizabeth Patrick's Frasermar Snowbird Vopecula. Coincidentally in both dogs and bitches the breeder of the CC also bred the reserve CC, John Turner (Bodebi) in dogs and Master F & Mrs M A Comrie-Bryant (Frasermar) in bitches. BP went to Jo Davidson-Poston's Spinillons Isadora. At the Munster Canine Association BOB & GSB went to Mrs Kilpatrick's Ch. Sonsirae Polgara the Sorceress, GSD to Diane Mooney's Omaonaig Fire Bird, and RSGD to Diane's Omaonaig Grey Swallow. And at the Deise Championship Show, Waterford BOB & GSB went to the late Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Icons Butterfly, GSD to her - Ch. Serenglade Special Design for Denemore, RGSD to Mrs Kilpatrick's Sonsirae Hi-Jinks and RGSB to Mrs Neally's Carrigteen Apatura Iris. No separate classes for phalenes although Diane Mooneys Aporia Chiassoso won the AVG9NC classes. Sue Belshaw (Belvisaj Papillons) has been having a good run in Ireland with Belvisaj Simply Charming - he achieved his Show Certificate of Merit at Lisburn & District Canine Club, where he took BOB &Group 2 . Since then he took BOB and Group 3 at Coleraine Canine Club and BOB & Group 3 at Londonderry Canine Association. Sue says she is very proud of him because it is not all the time she can rely on her regular "pusher" for the wheelchair and so Simply Charming sometimes has to put up with a total stranger chasing up his rear!!! |
| Our Dogs | Well I really think we have had enough rain now, I do hope those of you living in the flood areas are safe; I hope that the summer breaks through soon. Not only us, but also I am sure, the dogs are looking forward to some sunshine. I gather the weather was good for Blackpool where the sun shone on two new Champions in the breed, both the Dog and Bitch CC winners were taking their well deserved crowning third ticket so well done to them both. Mrs J Banfield judged the breed, her principle winners were: DCC and BOB; BODEBI RHYTHM IS A DANCER (MR J W TURNER), RDCC; BODEBI SUCCESS STORY FOR BEDELLUS ShCM (MRS P A BEADLE), BCC; FRASERMAR FAIRY TALE OF ROZAMIE (MR J A MAGRI), RBCC; FRASERMAR SNOWBIRD VOLPECULA (MISS E B PATRICK), BEST PUPPY; SPINILLONS ISADORA (MRS J DAVIDSON-POSTON). Mr S Parsons judged the stakes classes, CH/IR CH IBSTOCK BRIGHT SPARK FOR SPINILLONS ShCM (MRS J DAVIDSON-POSTON), won the Veteran Stakes and was second in the Champion Stakes. Well done to all the winners, do please let me have your stakes wins as it is not always easy to check them online, especially if any of the juniors are doing well, which on past standards I am sure they must be, please just send an e-mail or call me if you have some success. It was good to hear from Sue Belshaw (Belvisaj) in Northern Ireland, Sue’s Belvisaj Simply Charming, achieved his Show Certificate of Merit title at Lisburn & District Canine Club, where he took BOB &Group 2 under judge Mrs Joan Berry.Since then, he has been on a winning streak taking BOB under Miss Eva Keenan and Group 3 under Mr Henry Stanley, at Coleraine Canine Club. He was awarded BOB & Group 3 at Londonderry Canine Association under judge Ashleigh Griffin. Sue says:”Im am very proud of my wee man” and I completely agree, especially as I believe this is only the second ShCM title gained by Papillons in Northern Ireland. He was home bred out of Sue’s first litter. Well-done Sue. Linda Stangle had a good result with her dog Alex (Hemdale Alexis the Avenger) he has qualified for the Eukanuba Mini Knockout Final at Crufts next year for the sixth year running. Also in the Team Dash he and his team-mates came 4th, only beaten by large dog teams, Linda says: “Not bad for a 10 year old!” extremely good I would say, very well done to Linda and Alex and good luck for the final at Crufts. It was good to read John Edson, the Secretary of the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club seems to have made a good recovery, John posted the following on Papnet: “May I thank all those kind Papillon people who sent get well cards, letters, messages and telephone calls during my two stays in York District Hospital this year” John also says “ it is now "business as usual” please route all your queries regarding the N & E to myself on 01757-268213 or the normal address”. |

| Our Dogs | South Wales KA Ch. Show had to be moved to Newbury owing to waterlogged ground at Usk, I gather it was rather cloggy at Newbury also. Mr R Banfield judged the breed and found his principle winners in: BCC and BOB; DENEMORE ICON'S BUTTERFLY (THE LATE MRS W KAVANAGH), RBCC; CH GLENIREN STARLIGHT KISSES (MRS I & MR G ROBB) DCC; BODEBI SUCCESS STORY FOR BEDELLUS ShCM (MRS P A BEADLE), RDCC; BODEBI RHYTHM IS A DANCER (MR J W & THE LATE MR G TURNER). Best Puppy; CHARLIE OF ASTI AT BLUEJAYS (MRS P & MISS K MUNN & FARRELL). This was the third and crowning CC for BODEBI SUCCESS STORY FOR BEDELLUS SHCM, so many congratulations to Pat and Bob Beadle on their first Champion in the breed. Rooney, as he is known is litter brother to Miss Lee’s Ch Bodebi Ray of Success At Lafford, bred by John and the late Gary Turner (Glasafon Successor x Elvistime Holly at Bodebi) Not a lot to report this week, perhaps you are all still sheltering from the rain. A note from Dorothy Simpson to say; “the closing date for sending in photos for the calendar is almost on us. I will accept them up to 15thJuly.If you do have any to send in I would be pleased to accept them either by post or by email. The cost is £1.50 each by email and 50p each if they are sent by post. Maximum size is 10x8.If you would like to order your calendars by email I will be happy to reserve them for you. You could also use the order forms in this years calendar and also order at the N&E Open show on 22nd July. It would be really helpful to get an idea of orders as I can't have any this year from the printers on sale or return” I had a note from Liz Smith in Pekingese, to let me have the flyer for the Garden Party (for all Table Dogs) organised by the Pekingese Reform Association, which will be held at Four Marks, Hants on the 5th August, there are to be various classes, show and novelty and a buffet is also available. Please ring 01483 233377 or 01932 347769 for further details. I do hope they get good Garden Party weather. I am keeping my fingers crossed also for the Fun-day / Agility show of the South of England Papillon Club which will be 21st July at Bradfield. I know the Agility bods are hardy sorts and a bit of rain wont bother them, but it would be nice if we could have a sunny day for the event. Please do come along to support this, the first ever Limited Agility Show for Papillons, the judging starts at 9.30 and the Fun-Day follows the show. |

| Dog World | Belated congratulations to Mr and Mrs F Bristow whose Troydale Orlando took BOB and RBIS at the Colwyn Bay CS Open Show. He is just 2 years old I do hope no one was too badly affected by the recent flooding. Here in Lincolnshire we had it quite bad - certainly oir little village saw some of the houses flooded. Fortunately we were not although the garden had a fair sized lake for a while and we had a 'moat' around part of the house for a while as did Caroline and David Roe. The garden in parts is still under a little water - no doubt there will soon be a hosepipe ban!! |
| Our Dogs | Marrion Sloan sent the results from the Bray Ch. Show in Ireland. The judge was Dr J Yek, in Papillons his principle winners were: DGS: Mooney's Omaonaig Grey Swallow, RDGS: Mooney's Kewen Snowfire, BGS: Kavanagh's Denemore Icons Butterfly, RBGS: Moony's Conysluck Magic Flute [C.J.W. 06] in Phalenes BGS and BOB : Mooney's Aporia Chiassoso, RBGS: Sloan's Sunshoo Imaspecial Edition Gleniren, DGS: Bruce/Bruce Jackson's Tijuana Melody Maker, RDGS: Mooney's Omaonaig Sea Bird, well done to all the winners and especially to Diane Mooney as this win gives Omaonaig Grey Swallow his Irish Champion title. I hear the day stayed dry for the judging at Paignton, Mrs S Sadler ,awarding CC’s for the first time in the breed found her principle winners in: BCC and BOB: ROBB Mrs I & Mr G. Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, RBCC: PEARCE Mrs M, Cofton Tickle My Fancy At Chypapom, DCC: ORCHARD Miss S. Panspayon Atlantis, RDCC: ROBERTS, Mrs E & SMITH Miss C. Serenglade Thackery At Rayol, Best Puppy: COOPER Mr & Mrs J M. Ringlands Eternal Flame At Ancojo. In the Toy group, judged by Mrs L Cartledge, Ch. Gleniren Starlight Kisses went on to win Group 3, well done to all the winners. Sue Morrell tells me, although the original closing date for adverts in the Club Handbook was 7th July, she has been able to extend this until the end of the month and anyone who may think they may have missed the deadline should contact Sue as soon as possible. Sues new e-mail address is temelorapaps@talktalk.net .Please do check your adverts thoroughly before you send them in as those accepted late will be unable to have proofs sent out to them. It is to be a full colour issue again this year and makes such a good reference document for the future. Please do support this publication. I recently managed to get hold of a few old catalogues from the sixties and seventies, they were from a Chihuahua breeder so unfortunately the Papillon entry was not marked up , they do however make good reading and again good reference. From the 1970 catalogue of the Welsh National Ch. Show, under the auspices of South Wales Kennel Association, which was held at Pontcanna Fields in Cardiff there were 39 Papillons making 67 entries for judge Mr Geo. Leatt, the only exhibitor entered who is still currently showing today was Mrs Anna Mcknight who was showing Daneview Dainty Dilys. The catalogue cost six shillings (30p), entry for one dog was twenty-five shillings (£1.25p) subsequent entries were ten shillings (50p), however the prize money if you won your class was £2 !, so going on today’s rates, If the Championship shows still paid prize money you should expect win around £32 for each class win…………..if only!. It sounded wonderful except you could not leave the show until 6.30pm with your dogs unless you lived over 75 miles away and had applied for an early removal order, which allowed you to leave at 4.30pm. Unless you want me to entertain you with more historical facts, you better send me some current news. |

| Dog World | Two shows to report on and two successes at Group level for the Glenirens. At Paignton Bitch CC and BOB went to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses who went on to take Group 3. Dog CC - I believe his first - went to Sue Orchard's Panspayon Atlantis, Reserve Dog CC to Eileen Robert's and Caroline Smith's Serenglade Thackery At Rayol and Reserve Bitch CC to Mrs Pearce's Cofton Tickley My Fancy At Chypapom. BP was Ann and John Cooper's Ringlands Eternal Flame At Ancojo. Following on at East of England Dog CC and BOB went to Irene Robb's Fin Ch Siljans My Man and this being his third CC gives him his UK title subject to KC confirmation. My Man went on to a wonderful Group 1 win - congratulations to Irene and of course to My Man's breeder Ulla Hanis in Sweden. Coincidentally behind My Man on both sire and dam's side is Ch Caswell Principality who himself took the Group at East of England in 1988. This was under George Down who sadly has recently passed away. Even more coincidence is that the judge for the breed this year was Irene McManus who was also the breed judge when Ch Sunshoo Imacaptain Scarlet took his Group 1 and BIS at Border Union (as I write these notes the final day of East of England has yet to take place so maybe My Man will complete the coincidence by going all the way as well). The Group Judge this year was Ann Horan who had given My Man the Reserve CC at Southern Counties last month. Bitch CC went to Kirsty Miller's Feorlig Midnight In Georgia JW - I believe a first for her. Reserves went to Sue Stanbury's Panspayon Stepin Out With Inixia in dogs and in bitches to Irene and Glenn Robb's Gleniren Juniper Starmaker Sunshoo. BP was Sue Stanbury's Powdermill Look Up To Inixia. In the report earlier this year on Crufts I gave details of young Emma McLaughlin's wonderful 2nd place in the Junior Handling Finals. As most folk will know, Emma has spent almost two years now trying to gain a position as a dog trainer with the Army. She has been successful in both interviews and physical assessments, but, up to press, the RAVC have not had an available position. As it seems unlikely that there will be any further openings in 2007, Emma has decided to consider her second Army job choice. Six weeks ago, she went to London for a few days on a potential recruits course for the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery. She had a fantastic time and came home with a recommendation, subject to yet more upper body fitness tests!!!! Sue and Ian proudly tell me that "their Em" has now been offered a position with King's Troop and will commence Basic Training on 20th August. With only 15 places available this year, she's a lucky girl! King's Troop are part of the Household Troop and are responsible for the firing of Royal Salutes on State Occasions, horses for State and Military funerals and ceremonial duties such as Remembrance Sunday, Lord Mayors Show and Queen's Birthday Parade. Possibly best known for the high speed musical ride (complete with cannons) seen at Edinburgh Tattoo, Horse of the Year Show etc!!!! Last minute fitness training and shopping for the packing list has now begun in earnest at home! Sue and Ian say it will seem very quiet there and at the shows without her, but they look forward to seeing Emma on her charger on the telly sometime soon!!!! Emma will be based in St John's Wood in London at the Royal Barracks . Obviously Sue and Ian are very proud and would like to thank everyone for their good wishes and support of Emma in everything she has done. They tell me that a spare bedroom will be available from WKC onwards....please phone to book!!!!!! |
| Our Dogs | Firstly I need to apologise to the winners for missing out the Windsor Ch. Show results completely, not that I noticed, but one of my readers did, which only goes to prove I do have at least one reader! At Windsor, where by all accounts the showground would have suited Hippo’s singing the “glorious mud song” far better than elegant dogs trying to stay clean, Mrs C. Roe judged the breed and found her principle winners in: DCC and BOB: TURNER Mr Bodebi Rhythm Is A Dancer, RDCC: STANBURY, Mrs S & UNWIN Miss M Inixia Dream's Magic, BCC: COX Lt Cdr B D S & Mrs P A Ch Wish Upon a Star over Tricianbri Sh.CM, RBCC: MAGRI Mr J A Frasermar Fairy Tale of Rozamie , Best Puppy: STANBURY Mrs S Inixia Pure Fantasy. Over in Ireland Eilish Neeley judged the Breed at the All Ireland Toy Dog Group Ch.Show , in Papillons she found BOB & GSD - Sonsirae Hi-Jinks, RGSD - Kewen Snowfire, GSB - Tedlyn Silver Star, RGSB - Conysluck Magic Flute. In Phalenes: BOB & GSD - Tijuana Melody Maker, RGSD - Omaonaig Sea Bird, GSB - Aporia Chiassoso, RGSB - Austrene Music To My Ears. Further overseas news, In the U.S., Powdermill Touch of Art Nouveau, now owned by Marachin Rosenstein, won Winners Dog and Best of Winners to gain his U.S. Championship title. Mike Foster and Mark Billinghurst exported this dog when they retired from breeding and showing, he had won 2 CC's and 2 Reserve CC's here in the UK before leaving to go to Texas. This will actually be the last Champion to be made up carrying the Nouveau affix so must be very special to Mike and Mark, I am not sure how long they have been breeding Papillons but I remember they seemed like old pros (in the nicest possible way) when I came to the breed. In my log of old catalogues I do have them entered with Nouveau Le Grand in the Junior Dog class at Windsor in 1978, bred by them in 1977, so It must be 30 years plus .“Le Grand” went on to be the first Nouveau Champion. I have the results for East of England Ch. Show: Mrs I McManus judged the breed and her winners were: DCC & BOB: FIN CH SILJANS MY MAN (MRS I ROBB), RDCC: PANSPAYON STEPIN OUT WITH INIXIA (MRS S STANBURY), BCC: FEORLIG MIDNIGHT IN GEORGIA JW (MISS K F MILLER), RBCC: GLENIREN JUNIPER STARMAKER SUNSHOO (MRS I & MR G ROBB), Best Puppy: POWDERMILL LOOK UP TO INIXIA (MRS S STANBURY). This was the third and crowning CC for FIN CH SILJANS MY MAN, bred by Mrs U Hanis, owned by Mrs I Robb and showed as part of the Gleniren/Sunshoo show-team. He went on win the Toy Group under Mrs A Horan, who had previously awarded him the RCC at Southern Counties Ch. Show this year. There have been some impressive group results for Papillons so far this year with one G4, one G3, one G2, two G1 and one Reserve Best in Show, Congratulations to all the winners. I was sorry to hear Jean Banfield had a fall and has broken her arm, I also heard Jo Davidson-Poston had been admitted to Hospital for surgery, Im sure we all wish them both well. |
