The schedule for the South Wales Papillon Club championship show arrived this week and confirms the new date of 1st October, the judge will be Mrs E Needham and the show will take place at Markham.

Diane Mooney sadly never made it to the Dundalk Ch show in Ireland, her car broke down and she spent most of the day on the AA recovery truck, she kindly sent in the results: DGS BOB and Group winner, Kavanaghs  Ch Serenglade Special Design for Denemore, RDGS, Pearson, Tedlyn Morning Star, BGS Kavanaghs, Lindendale Lass for Serenglade, RBGS Belshaws,  Belvisjaz I Have a Dream.

Leeds Ch. show saw Mrs J Dickinson Franks from Australia judging, she had drawn one of the highest entries this year at a general Ch. Show, her winners were:Dog CC & BOB: Mrs I & Mr G Robb & Mr & Mrs D & C Roe,Dk Norw Ch Gleniren Premier League Sunshoo, Res Dog CC :Ms C LEES  Bodebi Ray of Success to Lafford, Bitch CC : Mrs I & Mr G ROBB Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, Res Bitch CC : Mrs A B MACGREGOR Pyatshaw Silver Tassie, Best Puppy : Mrs A HECTOR Ablazzor Tiger Lily.

The following day the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club held their summer Open show with Mrs Karen O’Kane (Northlyte) judging, her winners were: BIS Mrs Woodrow’s Ablazzor Christmas Cracker at Lynflyer, RBIS Mrs Cochrane’s Tijuana Victoria, BPIS Mrs Hector’s Ablazzor Tiger Lily ,B Dog  Mr & Mrs Skelton’s Adnamashan Kiss n Tell , RB Dog  Moss’s Blairancoes Merry go round at Delphlands , B Bitch    Mrs Woodrow’s Ablazzor Christmas Cracker at Lynflyer , RB Bitch  Mrs E. Cochrane’s Tijuana Victoria, BP Dog    Mrs E. Cochrane’s Tutyak Zitherzone, BP Bitch  Mrs Hector’s Ablazzor Tiger Lily.

Great news from Kirsty Miller, her Feorlig Midnight In Georgia won the Junior Bitch stakes on the Saturday at Leeds and then went back on the Monday and was the Overall PetPlan Junior Stakes Bitch winner.  So she is now a finalist for the PetPlan Junior Stakes final, which is being held on the 14th of September. The judge was Mrs Shelia Sadler. Also Georgia has gained her Junior Warrant at just 13 months old. A great achievement for Kirsty, who I have to say, always seems to be rushing round the show ground, showing a Skye terrier here and a Beagle or a Springer there! Then manages to get back to the Papillon ring for her class with seconds to spare! So much for a relaxing hobby. I am sure we all wish Georgia good luck in the final, its always nice when the breed is represented in the stakes finals.

At Leeds Dk Norw Ch Gleniren Premier League Sunshoo took his second CC and BOB, he is of course owned by Irene and Glenn Robb and Carolyn and David Roe. Bitch CC went to Irene and Glenn's Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses with Reserves going to Ms C Lees' Bodebi Ray of Success to Lafford in dogs and in bitches to Anne MacGregor's Pyatshaw Silver Tassie. BP was Mrs A Hector's Ablazzor Tiger Lily

At the Dundalk Ch Show in Ireland GSD, BOB and Group 1 went to Dolly Kavanagh's Ch Serenglade Special Design For Denemore, GSB to Dolly's Lindendale Lass for Serenglade, RGSD to Gladys Pearson's Tedlyn Morning Star and RGSB to Sue Belshaw's Belvisjaz I Have A Dream

At the Northen and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Open Show BIS went to Lynn  Woodrow's Ablazzor Christmas Cracker at Lynflyer. A full list of class results etc can be otained from the Club's web site at http://www.papclubne.freeserve.co.uk/

Mark and I were delighted to hear from Marichin Rosenstein that Powdermill Touch of Art Nouveau had made his debut in the ring in the USA and at his first cluster of shows took a Reserve Winners Dog, a Best Of Winners with a four point Major and a Winners Dog with two points. Perry of course was bred by Ruth and Ann Weston and had had some success over here gaining two CC's and two Reserve CC's before he went to Marichin. Many will know the unfortunate fright he had when he was set upon by another dog at East Of England at his third ever show here a couple of years ago and how hard it was for us to get him back into the ring, we were delighted that Marichin has been able to get him showing so positively again,. hopefully his title will come soon

Brian Cox has asked me to metion that Wish Upon A Star Over Tricianbri whom I recently reported took the Bitch CC at East of Egland is in fact owned jointly by him and his wife Pat (Lt Cdr  & Mrs P Cox)

No show results this week? Has everyone been away on holiday?. Well if you have some results to brag about let me have them.

I was sorry to hear Elaine Dykes collapsed at East of England, she was taken to Peterborough Hospital with a suspected minor heart attack, I am pleased to say it proved not to be so serious, I do hope Elaine is fit and well again, I was told the heat at Peterborough was extreme.

I have really been enjoying this weather, and luckily living on the coast does mean we have a nice breeze most of the time, the dogs have found the shady places to go and relax when it gets really warm.

Next week will be Bournemouth and I see in the order of judging they have put Papillons second in the ring after Pugs, I always thought breeds were judged alphabetically in schedule order. Both breeds will be judged by Mrs Thorn-Andrews, what a good job she has not drawn a high entry from what are normally the second and third highest entries in the toy group, I suspect Pugs have been given priority so they can be judged before the heat of the day, sadly it means Papillons will get the hottest weather if the heat wave continues. I really do wonder why some judges need to accept appointments to judge two numerically strong breeds on the same day, already one breed has been taken away from Mr Thorn at the show as he has drawn excessive entries in the three breeds he was allocated to judge, it really is not satisfactory for exhibitors to enter under one judge then have a replacement just because the judge accepts too many breeds.

I am looking forward going down to Southsea Common this weekend for the City of Portsmouth Open Show, it is always such fun and more like a county show with plenty going on, the common is right on the seafront and the dog section is penned with its own very convenient parking. It was at this show many years ago that I met Kathy Blayney for the first time, and I always think of Kathy when we go there as you can see the Isle of Wight so clearly, Kathy was great fun to chat with, she was always encouraging Rodney to go to the fur and feather tent and I never knew what we would be coming home with, one year it was a cockerel! Which the neighbours didn’t think too highly of!. Kathy had a very definite idea of what makes a good Papillon, I think she was one of the few, if not the only judge I can remember withholding placings for Papillons at a championship show.

Great news in last weeks Our Dogs that Crufts is to take much more space at the NEC next year, and will be moving the main ring out of hall 5 so at least we wont have to put up with the excessive noise of recent years from the excited agility and fly-ball fans. Also hopefully there will be less congestion which last year was really a problem.

The Education day of the South of England Papillon Club will take place on 15th October this year at New Haw, near Woking, in the morning: Come and hear STEVE DEAN  (of Dog World’s ‘A Vet’s View’) give a talk on the perils, problems and joys of Mating and Whelping bitches, and how you can survive the ordeal (never mind your bitches!). Entitled ‘Mating, Miracles and Magic’ and illustrated with slides (via computer Power Point), this is an informative and most enjoyable talk, and we guarantee everyone will learn things they never knew before.  Steve speaks with the authority of the vet, but also of the breeder —  a talk Not To Be Missed!  There will be a coffee break and then question time. After Lunch :‘The Basics of Agility’, a talk with slides and demonstrations by DENISE WELSH Denise is kindly offering a guide on starting in Agility—basic training, do’s and don’ts, again with computer-oriented illustrations. Next year the South of England Papillon Club will be holding its first KC- licensed Agility Show, limited to Papillons, so all you fit and keen Juniors, and all you older, experienced (but Young at Heart) Pap owners, get training!! The day will finish with a cream tea (Our usual indulgence, thanks to the clubs kind patron, Sue Jones!) Flyers with booking forms will be sent to all members and will also be available at Bournemouth Ch. Show.

My thanks to Phil Shirley, Secretary of the South of England Papillon Club for letting me have the following information. As I have mentioned before I am more than happy to publish information relating to Club events for any of the Breed Club's.

Another interesting and educational event which this progressive club is putting on, I am sure the members appreciate all that this club does for them.

News from Ireland thanks to Diane Mooney. At the Bangor Show GSB and BOB went to Dolly Kavanagh's Lindendale Lass for Serenglade, this apparently gives her her Irish Title, congratulations to Dolly and of course to the breeder Brian Cox (Lindendale), GSD went to Marion Sloan's Ir Ch Austerene Im Electric, RGSD to Diane Mooney's Omaonaig Grey Swallow and RGSB to Gladys Pearson's Tedlyn Silver Star. The following day an International show was held. GSD and BOB went to Dolly's  Ir Ch Serenglade Special edition For Denemore who also took Group 4, RGSD, Best Puppy and Puppy Group 4 went to Diane's Issoria Bibio Omaonaig, Dog CACIB to Diane's Mooney's Omaonaig Tropical Sun, Res CACIB  Mrs Switzers Dolissimo After Eight at Issoria, GSB and CACIB Dolly's Lindendale Lass at Serenglade and RGSB & Res CACIB Killeen Kings Ringlands Maybe Baby

News from Anne MacDonald north of the border in Scotland. At the recent Bon Accord Open show, in Aberdeen, Carole Paul's bitch puppy, Meerwings Painted Lady, went BPIS under Liz Stannard and previously this puppy was BPIS at North of Scotland Toydog open show under Sue Morrell. The puppy's dam, Pyatshaw Madam Butterfly, 2 years previously, had also gone BMPIS at Bon Accord and BPIS at North of Scotland Toydog open show. Clearly the puppy is following on in mother's paw steps.

Those members of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club who are not on the internet or who are not members of the Papnet list will probably not be aware that Debbie Gornall has recently resigned her position as Rescue Coordinator and from the Committee. For the time being if there are any dogs that need rescuing whilst the Club is without a Rescue Co-ordinator, would you kindly inform your nearest Rescue co-ordinator/Area Representative (you will also find details in 2006 handbook pages 78/79 or on page 19 of the Summer 2006 Newsletter. I should in fairness also point out that some of our other Breed Clubs also run a Welfare and Rescue Scheme.

Some nice Open show results this week, Rosemary Hobson had a great day at Chadderton Open Show with her Rosenjon Coco Chanel taking BOB and Group1 and her puppy Rosenjon One in a Million taking BP and Puppy Group 1. Sam Tydeman went to East of England LKA Open show, under Sue Morrell won BP with her Kingshaven Whodunnit at Karingal which went on to win Puppy Group 4 under Stuart Mallard , Sam said there were lovely sashes donated for BOB and BP by Doug and Shirley Colyer and also nice gifts from the judge, Sam certainly had a good day as she also took her Border Collie who won BP out of 12 puppies at just 6 months old. Brian and Pat Cox had a good result at City of Portsmouth Open Show winning BOB and Group 2 with their Wish Upon A Star Over Tricianbri , BP was Hobbs and Poulters Sanjuper Next Generation. Congratulations to all these winners. We had intended to visit City of Portsmouth show, but my Jeep literally blew up on the way just as we got to Worthing, luckily we were at traffic lights at the time, being a Sunday the nearest hire car the AA could get me was at Gatwick Airport so by time I had to be taken there then back the Sunday traffic was a nightmare so the plans were abandoned. I was sorry to hear this may be the last time the Show takes place, Portsmouth City Council need to make some savings and may not schedule the show next year. Chatting with Sandra Poulter recently I am glad to say she is feeling in much better health after quite a nasty spell of hospital visits. News from Ireland: with two Ch.shows recently first at  Bangor Show at Belfast under Judge Mrs Lamont (Northern Ireland) DGS Sloans Ir Ch Austerene Im Electric, RGSD Mooneys Omaonaig Grey Swallow, GSB & BOB Kavanaghs Lindendale Lass for Serenglade,RGSB Pearson Tedlyn Silver Star, this makes Lindendale Lass  IKC Champion, so congratulations to Dolly and Brian Cox who bred her.Next at Dun Laoghaire it was a International Championship Show, Judge Mr P Condo (Italy) GSD BOB Group 4 Kavanaghs Ch Serenglade Special edition For Denemore, RGSD Best Puppy, Puppy group 4 Mooneys Issoria Bibio Omaonaig, Dog CACIB Mooneys Omaonaig Tropical Sun, RCACIB Switzers Dolissimo After Eight at Issoria, BGS & CACIB Kavanaghs  Lindedale Lass at Serenglade, RBGS & RCACIB Killeen Kings Ringlands Maybe Baby. Many congratulations o the winners and thanks to Diane Mooney for the results. Some news from Denise Welsh who spent the week at UK Agility, Harlie (the Magnificent) won the Ch. agility and the Ch. steeplechase classes, she also came third in the Ch. jumping, she has always beaten the faster dogs in the agility classes rather than jumping, she can "run her contacts" which gives her a huge advantage. Harlie will be 12yrs old on 20th August. I am sure she will retire at some time; Denise says she will wait for her to tell her when. Denise met Jill Breen at the show, Jill who works for Our Dogs  ran a Kingshaven bitch (Sherry) and did very well indeed in the beginners classes. Angie Tydeman and her papillons also did well, Angie runs three papillons, Ice (Kazim Ice is Nice) Tio who is mostly Inixia breeding and little Foxy who is a little pap that came from the Blue Cross. Angie qualified all three papillons for the Finals at UKA and finished well in the places with Tio and Foxy, Foxy is a little red and white pap, he is such an honest little dog and tries his heart out every time he is asked to compete.  Tio is a rescue dog and has never been easy but Angie found the way to his heart and they have built up a great working relationship.  Angie won the “Harlie the Magnificent “ Trophy presented by the South of England Papillon Club last year and looks set to do it again this year. Denise reminds agility buffs:Dont forget there is a papillon only agility class at C-Side agility show also the Papillon Agility League Final will be held in December at the Just Minis Agility Show, all information can be found on www.agilitynet.com . Amy Mason must be thrilled with the success of Bob (Thoughts of Stardom at Amsema) she presents and shows him so well and now at just 12 months old Bob has gained his Junior Warrant, well done Amy. The Schedule for the Papillon Club of Scotland arrived this week, the new venue is to be Bo’ness Recreation Centre, held on 24th September the breed will be judged by Mr A Wight, entries closing 28th August. Thanks for the input this week, I knew some of you were winning out there, but unless you tell us we are none the wiser.

Sue Stanbury would like to remind everyone the entries for South Wales Papillon Club Ch Show, will shortly be closing, if you need a schedule, call the Secretary, Helen Wheeler on 07760213702.

News from Sue Belshaw over in Northern Ireland: Sues, Molly (Belvisaj I Have A Dream) recently finished her "puppy career" with 2 Res. Green Stars (IKC), and at Ballymena Open Show (KC), judge Mrs G Baillie (Scotland) she won Best Puppy in Breed, Best of Breed, Group 4, and Puppy Group 1. Then at the Ulster Toy Dog Society Open Show (KC), judge Mrs H McClean (Scotland), Molly was awarded Best of Breed and Group 4. Congratualions to Sue and Molly, also congratulations to Pat and Brian Cox with their Nesta (Wish upon a star over Tricianbri)  who continues her winning ways at Gillingham and Shaftsbury Open show taking BOB and Group 1, Nesta must be nearing her ShCM title im sure.

Bournemouth Ch. Show was a rather lack lustre affair in my opinion, its always nice to meet up with everyone and see the dogs but sadly the weather was unkind and shortly after commencing her first breed, Pugs, it started to rain and the judge moved to under cover and to a rather small ring at that. I do wish all societies would consider using the clear span marquees they are just so much better for all concerned. We then waited until after One o’clock for Papillon judging to commence, just  as well it was not a very large entry.  Mrs Thorn-Andrews winners from an entry of 90 were: Dog CC & BOB Miss C. G. M. RUTTEN Up And Down's Frederike, Res Dog CC : Mr V. Toivanen Mr J. ROOSENS & Mrs E ABELOOS-DEVOS,  Siljans My Man, Bitch CC : Mrs I & Mr G ROBB Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, Res Bitch CC :Mrs S THOMPSON, Mrs J AUSTIN Jhanakia Highland Breeze, Best Puppy : Miss S. C. LANGDON Skyvana Apparition Of Shadowknight. Interestingly the first four places in open dog went to dogs that were bred overseas.

I have not been asked to announce this, but feel it is sensible to let members know the position of rescue co-ordinator for the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club is vacant owing to the resignation of Miss Gornall. On the club website they advise those seeking help with Papillons in welfare or rescue to contact one of the other Papillon breed club rescue or welfare co-ordinators, I think they should also mention contacting the area reps which in the past often helped when problems arose with picking up and transporting dogs also doing home checks, it is actually part of the requirements of an area rep. There seem to be quite a lot of area reps, but on the club website there still are a few vacancies for certain areas: Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Avon, im sure anyone in those areas that may be willing to help will be welcomed.

A Black and White Papillon bitch has been picked up in the Norwich area and is currently being fostered, she appears to be about 9 years old and may have had a recent operation as she had a shaved patch on her leg, she is in good health if anyone has heard of a bitch that has gone missing, please contact area rep. Viv Cotton on 01284-704359.
