The South of England Papillon Club recently held its Fun Day and Phil Shirley has been kind enough to send the following report. "After a week of very changeable weather we were so lucky to have a warm sunny day for the Fun Day organised by the South of England Papillon Club. Bradfield village hall was to be the venue this year and very popular it proved to be, with a cosy hall is case of inclement weather and a lovely grassed area where we were able to set up. Denise Welsh and her team set up the agility course which again this year proved so popular, it really is lovely to see Papillons whizzing round so excitedly. The fun Classes always gain good entries. This year there was the opportunity for dogs to take their KC good Citizen bronze award, Jenny Casey ably took charge of this with plenty of interest shown, 10 dogs actually took the test and 5 managed to pass with flying colours. The very capable food sub-committee consisting of Ian and Janet Chandler and Ian and Rita Dack ably assisted by Sue Langdon produced a lovely lunch with several choices of hot and cold dishes followed by delicious desserts. The club stall did good business as did the other stalls with all the produce selling out quickly and very good support for the tombola and raffle. The Fancy Dress parade took place shortly after everyone had enjoyed their Cream Tea. A substantial donation from the proceeds will be made to Papillon Welfare. The event was well supported by the membership and it is very encouraging to see in some cases how far people will travel to support the club, this event really has started to gain a good reputation and if you couldn't make it this year do look out for next years date and come along, everyone will be made very welcome"
At SKC Jo Davidson Poston's Spinillons Touch of Heather picked up her second CC and with it BOB, she is by Ir Ch Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons Sh CM out of Anncolm Love In A Mist with Spinillons. Jo would like to thank everyone for their congratulations, and for all their support and prayers during what has obviously been a very difficult time following Sparky's disappearance. Sadly there is still no news of him, I know how dreadful it is to have of a beloved pet go missing having had this happen with one of the cats some years ago, somehow it seems all the harder with a dog after all cats are natural roamers. As Jo rightly says it is soemthing which could so easily happen to any of us, I know that since hearing of this I have taken extra precautions when my own are out playing, as safe as it is they are never left out there now without the back door being left open all the time and whenever they bark I am out like a shot. Dog CC went to Sandra Austin and Jane Thompson's Jhanakia Oliver's Story JW, by Ch Penang Bold Horatio out of Glasafon Fantasy at Jhanakia , I believe this is his first CC. Reserves went to Sue Deamer's Bankshill Isle of Lewis in dogs, by Dourhu Sharnidubs out of Giverny Sweet Susie, and in bitches to Mrs S Langdon's Christea Midnight Rose For Skyvana, by Ch Tussalud Tell Me A Story out of Zokaren Dolly Daydream. Best Puppy was Mrs Kirk's Kirkchase Razzle Dazzle.
Last week I gave some details of three new overseas Ringlands Champions which together with the recent crowning here in the UK of Ch Ringlands Denemore Chasing Rainbows brought the total of champions throughout the world having borne the Ringlands name to 106. When I gave details last week I did not have the name of the new American Champion owned by Patricia McCann, it is Am Ch Ringlands Almandira Lunar Star. In fact I now hear the correct total is 108, a record indeed to be proud of and a tribute to Norma's 50 years plus in the breed, with more than a little help of course from Pat especially in recent years. This new total includes the recent making up in the USA of Am Ch Ringlands Rainbow Warrior, owned by Pat Groff, Maximilian Papillons.
Jean Lawrence, the Benevolent Fund Administrator for the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club tells me that all has been remarkably quiet for awhile, hopefully that means everyone is in good health. She has however asked me to remind folk in case they have forgotten that she has taken over this role and would like to hear if anyone knows of any Club Member's who are under the weather or indeed of any members celebrating special events such as noted anniversary's etc. The Benevolent Fund does like to keep in touch with members at such time and Jean would not like to miss anyone out through not knowing. |

Liz Anderson judged at SKC and her BCC and BOB was a second CC for Jo Davidson-Poston's Spinillons Touch Of Heather. RBCC went to Sophie Langdon's Christea Midnight Rose for Skyvana. DCC was Austin & Thompson's Janakia Olivers Story and RDCC was Dreamer's Bankshill Isle of Lewis. Best Puppy was Kirk's Kirkchase Razzle Dazzle
Jo Davidson-Poston has asked me to thank all those for their congratulations on Heather's win at SKC Jo's heart hasn't been in showing as she is still distressed over the loss of Sparky from her Mother's garden so this was a lovely surprise for her. She is also touched by the number of people who have rallied to her support in all sorts of ways and warns every one to keep a close eye on their dogs even in the quietest areas
On the subject of dog stealing I have just received the following from Carolyne Allward Chebsey with the request to pass it on ' Acorn Tree Services, a well known and reputable firm have sold off a number of their Vans complete with Logo, of which at least two and possibly more are being used by people who steal dogs( and anything else they can carry off) The people driving them do have saws etc and usually approach houses asking if there is any tree work and then check up if there are any dogs. Note: genuine Acorn bods have ID and a number to ring and check '
I am sad to have to tell you that Queenie Bruce has lost her sweet little Champion Ch Tijuana Minstrel at just over seven years old. He developed an inoperable tumour, Queenie is naturally devastated and would rather not talk about it . Such a loss to lose such a lovely dog so young, I know your thoughts will be with her and Amanda.
I have a note from the Asst Secy of South Eastern Cos Toy Dog Society asking me to tell you that the Show has moved both Venue and Date for this year. it will now be held at Woking Leisure Centre on 23rd October 2004 with Deborah Gornall(Tinklebury) judging 4 classes of Papillons Further Information can be had from Stuart Band on 01344 883648 or on www.sectoydogs.fsnet.co.uk This Society has always supported Papillons so I hope they have a good entry |

Two trips in three days to the Coventry area meant a busy weekend with Birmingham and the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Open Show. Having had our two judge for the Club Show who were staying with us arrive a day or so before they elected not to come to Birmingham so as not only would all the dogs and exhibitors be new to them but they would be seen to be so.
At Birmingham a few of the dogs seemed to be put off by metal plates which apparently ran under the carpeted ring, some seemed to be a little worried by the sudden clanking when either dog or handler stepped on these. I understand last year the ring was not carpeted, and it may be that with these plates being hidden by the carpets some dogs were a little more surprised by the sudden noise. Having these marked with a cross on the carpet I suppose helped a little in avoiding them, even if it did mean trying to veer around these. The day was extremely hot even under cover so I am sure many of us were probably glad of the shade. Bitch CC and BOB went to Irene and Glen Robb's Gleniren Scarlet Signature, who also went Best Puppy. This was her first CC and she is by Daneview Rhythm and Blues out of Sunshoo Imascarlet Erika at Gleniren. Dog CC, his second, went to Powdermill Touch of Art Nouveau, bred by Ruth and Ann Weston he is by Shirando Chocolate Soldier out of Nouveau Gypsy Lass. Reserves went to Queenie Bruce and Amanda Bruce Jackson's Macstrak Classic Jazz in dogs, bred by Carol Hatch he is by Tijuana Melody Maker out of Macstrak The Diva, and in bitches to Mrs Pearce's Cofton Tickle My Fancy at Chypapom by Jap Ch Inixia Fly By Night out of Shevid French Fancy.
Two days later was the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Open show where out two judges Don and Sharon Mahoney from the Mondelise Papillons in Australia had drawn a super entry of 201 dogs making 224 entries. We had hoped to set up a ring outside but judging by Fridays very hot weather there was some concern as to the outside facilities given that there was no shade available and there was also some concern that the area to be used had some broken glass scattered around. As it was it was decided to show indoors although even there it was at times quite overbearingly hot. Our two judges were not to concerned by this, coming from Australia it was I suppose for them quite a pleasant temperature. I know both our judges enjoyed their day immensely and it will be interesting to read their overall impressions of the breed here in comparison both to their own country and to Sweden where they had recently taken in the Swedish Specialty. Best Bitch and BIS went to Sue Morrell and Thesbina Teague's recently crowned Ch Serenglade Enchanted Lady for Temelora, bred by Linda Greenslade she is by Kingshaven Rooney at Serenglade out of Serenglade Serene. Best Dog and RBIS went to Jean and Roger Banfield's Amicae Star Charm At Kingshaven in dogs, bred by Mary Whitehill he is by Martika Skywalker out of Kingshaven Quazy Rythm. Best Puppy was Irene and Glen Robb's Gleniren Scarlet Signature. A full report of the show will of course appear in the Club's newsletter and it is hoped that we will also be able to get some pictures of the winners up on the Club web site together with the overall impression of our two judges.
Unfortunately at the Show Sandra Austin lost a gold necklace, hopefully someone will have picked this up and be wondering to whom it belongs and needless to say Sandra would be pleased to get it back as it does have sentimental value.
At the Drogheda & DCC Championship Show BOB & GSD went to Dolly Kavanagh's Ir Ch Serenglade Gold Sovereign, GSB to Diane Mooney's Omaonaig Flame of Tara, RGSD Marion Sloan's Austrene I'm Electric and RGSB to Dolly's Denemore Forbidden Love.
Liz and Alan Bartram have now completed their house move, their new address is 16 Highlow Close, Chesterfield, Derbyshire S40 4PG tel: 01246 231261.
I was sorry to hear recently from Queenie Bruce that she had lost Ch Tijuana Minstrel at just over 7 years of age. I sometimes think that when nature gives you something special like Minstrel was to Queenie it has a habit of not letting you have it for too long. Minstrel was a special boy, he had a super show career culminating in his BOB at Crufts in 2001. Understandably Queenie and Amanda are still feeling the loss quite keenly and would rather not talk about it just yet, but I do feel that the passing of such a special little dog should be noted.
Following the recent spate of dog thefts Caroline Allward Chebsey passes on this information. "Acorn Tree Services, a well known and reputable firm have sold off a number of their Vans complete with Logo, of which at least two and possibly more are being used by people who steal dogs (and anything else they can carry off) The people driving them do have saws etc and usually approach houses asking if there is any tree work and then check up if there are any dogs. Note: genuine Acorn reps have ID and a number to ring and check". Wise I think to treat every stranger whether using a well known company van or not as suspicious and perhaps for each of us to take stock of our own circumstances.
A reminder about the 4 Breed Super Match being organised. You will all remember that the competition is open to any papillon who between Richmond Championship Show 2003 and Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show 2004 (both included) wins a CC, Res CC or Best Puppy or takes 3 First places in Crufts qualifying classes. I have previously given details of the evenings events but have a little more information now. Deirdre Ashdown is providing art work for the occasion and Ron Stewart who is organising it all writes "Deirdre has produced 4 pictures , 1 of each breed , with decoration to reflect the course the breed is introducing e.g one is of a dog sitting on round of cheese. ( no. I wont say which breed ) , so there is one representing soup, one for main course , one for dessert , and the one for cheese. Deirdre will sign and date ( as that of the Challenge ) each original picture , each will be framed , and we will raffle each picture separately. That way people can concentrate their ticket buys to the breed(s) they would like to win , without the danger of winning one they don't. There will also be a special dinner time quiz that will be short and sweet ( There is a clue in there , by the way ) and not too onerous. Everything is coming along well but Ron tells me he is still hoping that we will have more papillons represented. I do hope as many as possible will be able to attend as it would be nice to have the breed represented well, much as I personally would love to go with our impending move etc I really can;t say whether we will be available at that time otherwise I would be there like a shot. If you are qualified, want to go and have not yet booked do please contact Ron as soon as possible on 01373 461776 , or at 7 Goulds Lane Frome , Somerset , BA11 3DN |

Richmond Ch Show was held at its new venue and I have not heard any comments about it except an advance warning that the roads were very narrow leading to it.However this caused no trouble and I understand that the organisation was very good. Amanda Bruse-Jackson was judging and she gave DCC and BOB to Carrine Rutten's Int Ch Antony who makes history by now becoming a UK Ch as well. Well Done! RDCC went to Mike Foster & Mark Billinghurst's Powdermill Touch of Art Nouveau. The BCC went to the Victor's and Emma's Farleysbane Fly High and RBCC was Caroline Lee-Farnsworth's Graycaz Puttin On The Glitz who was also Best Puppy
Our Papillon Junior Handlers did very well with a delighted Clare Butler and Tinklebury Dr No winning the 12-16 Toy Group and now goes on to the National Finals in January. Congratulations also to Rebecca Thompson who nearly made it a Papillon Double but was pipped by an Italian Greyhound in the 6-11 Toy Group and took second, Amy Gomez made the cut in the younger class and Emma McLaughlin was 5th in the older one. They all deserve our congratulations.
Harlie The Magnificent just doesn't believe that she is simi- retired! She took Denise to the Agility SupaDogs qualifier and camde second( the first 5 go through to the Final in October 2005) then a few days ago she won both the jumping and Agility Classes The judge could not believe she is 10 and I think no one has told Harlie either !!
The following comes from Carolyne Allward-Chebsey and is new information about advertising in the Club Newsletter " Since including colour pages in the Newsletter, which has made it far more attractive, we are now able to offer members the opportunity to place adverts in colour as well as in black or white.. The cost per page will be as follows:- £50.00 colour advert, £30.00 black and white advert. The Back page (which will be printed on colour card cover and will only be available in black and white so including a photo is not advised) will also be available at a cost of £60.00 for Trade Adverts or £40.00 for Members adverts. Text only adverts (no photo's) are also available for £15.00. The positioning of adverts within the Newsletter will be at the Editor's decision taking into consideration the requirements of the printers etc but obviously anyone booking more than one page will have their advertisements appear on consecutive pages.
Alan and Liz Bartram have now moved and are happily settling in to their new home at 16 Highlow Close, Laundsley Green, Chesterfield, Derbyshire S40 4PG Tel: 01246 231261Bookings are now being taken for the Christmas issue and you will need to let the Editor know as soon as possible if you want to take a page. Photographs can be e-mailed but if they are to be scanned in, send them at no less than 600 dpi's , jpeg file and of a decent size. If they are large files, please send them zipped. A rather windy and at times chilly day at Darlington. Dog CC and BOB went to Jenny Scovell's Caswell Classic Tri and being his third CC gives him his title subject to KC confirmation. He is by Caswell Copper Charmer out of Ch Caswell Coppatina. Bitch CC went to Jo Davidson-Poston's Ch Spinillons A Touch Of Hope, by Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons ShCm out of Anncolm Love In A Mist With Spinillons. Reserves went to Liz and Alan Bartram's Burghbridge UR Classic Gold in dogs, by Burghbridge Fly For Gold out of Ch Daneview Dainty Bella Bella and in bitches to Joan Savage's Abbeyton Beautiful Dreamer, by Northlyte Silver Dream out of Abbeyton Spring Blossom. Best Puppy was Elizabeth Cochrane's Tutyak Teddyboy, by Tutyak Midnight Magic out of Tutyak Pandora. Quite a bit of success for papillons at Darlington. Irene and Glenn Robb's Gleniren Scarlet Signature continued her run of success by winning a super Puppy Stakes bitch class in some notable company. In the Pedigree Post Graduate Stakes Helen Verity's Macstrak Minuet JW ShCm was placed second and Jo Davidson-Poston's Ir Ch Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons won the AVD/B Pro Dogs Open Stakes. I was sorry to hear from Jo Davidson Poston that Kay Mense had passed away, she had been in a residential home since suffering a stroke in March. Kay had spent her life looking after her parents both of whom sadly passed away just two years ago and it is sad to think that she only had two short years after that. With her sister, Francis Daly, Kay owned and showed several Springers and more recently had enjoyed showing her papillons. The funeral will take place at Hither Green Lane Crematorium, Lewisham at noon on Tuesday the 28th September, flowers through the undertakers Francis Chappel , 4 Lee Road, Lewisham, SE13. Our condolences go to her sister. At the Carlow & DCC Championship Show in Ireland GSD & BOB went to Marion Sloan's Austrene I'm Electric, this win gives him his Irish Title subject to confirmation, GSB went to Mrs Kilpatrick's Sonsirae Polgara The Sorceress, RGSD to Killeen-King/Greiffe/Switzer's Pilipalas Greig and RGSB to Diane Mooney's Conysluck Sun Shadow. Helen Verity writes about a scare they had recently with Sunshoo Jeremy Fisher. Whilst out on a walk with Helen's mother his collar broke right in the middle of crossing a busy street. fortunately he stayed still and was picked up and carried to safety. On investigating the collar, which were of the type made of material with black plastic 'clunk click' fasteners, the thin arms on the plastic clips had worn away (although they had only been bought about 12 months before). Checking a similar lead everything looked fine only to find that one too broke on the next walk. Needless to say Helen won't be using these again but thought it worth mentioning so that anyone who uses these types of leads check them very carefully. Having had a number of things with such sort of fasteners (never dog leads I am pleased to say) I know how easily these do break and not I would think the best type of fastener for a dog collar. Mark and I were delighted to receive a telephone call from Queenie Bruce who is currently enjoying a break in Cyprus. She had been to a Toydog Championship Show there(although Queenie says some of the breeds in the Group would surprise us) and that our Nouveau Island Icon had taken the CC and BOB and was in the final selection for BIS. Island Icon is now owned by Anthos of the King Pygmalion papillons, who many will recall attended our Club Championship Show earlier this year. and in fact had only been with Anthos for just three weeks. It was his first show as he had not been shown over here only attending a couple of Ringcraft classes. Ant, as Island Icon strangely was called, was due to go out to Anthos earlier in the year but a problem with the micro chipping delayed this, he had to have three attempts at being micro chipped, the first two disappearing somewhere, and as a result of this also had to have two rabies injections. Needless to say Anthos was delighted even though Ant took the breed over Anthos' own champion who at the previous show had taken BIS. Beryl Lambert is currently in Leicester General Hospital having had major surgery. Ken tells me that she is recuperating well and it is hoped she will be home within about 10 days or so. The hospital have requested that anyone wishing to send flowers wait until Beryl is back home rather than send them to the hospital so anyone wishing to do so might care to check with Ken as to whether Beryl is home. We all hope she will soon be back on her feet and I know she is hoping to be able to attend the Northern and Eastern Counties Championship Show in November. At the recent Hands On Assessment held in Bury St Edmunds which was organised by Doug Colyer, there was a good turn out for the Assessor, Steven Bardwell. One young lady who did outstandingly well was Vicki Loader who gained a pass mark of 100%. At just 15 years old Vicki must be one of the youngest to take the course and perhaps even the youngest to ever achieve such an outstanding result.. Vicki has been handling papillons for only a couple of years already with some success. Many congratulations to her |

Anne Summerfield judged at Darlington Ch Show and she gave DCC & BOB to Jenny Scovell's Caswell Classic Tri which, being his third CC now adds his name to the list of Caswell Champions Congratulations Jenny! RDCC went to the Bartram's Burghbridge UR Classic Gold . BCC was Jo Davidson-Poston's Ch Spinillons A Touch of Hope and RBCC went to Joan Savage's Abbeyton Beautiful Dreamer. Best Puppy was Elizabeth Cochrane's Tutyak Teddyboy. and Best Veteran went to Wilson's Invergarick Conquistador Papillons also did well in the Stakes where Irene and Glenn Robb won the Purina Pro Plan /Dog World Puppy Stakes of the day with Gleniren Scarlet Signature, AVDB Pro Dogs Stakes was won by Jo Davidson-Poston's Ir Ch Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons Sh CM and 2nd in the Pedigree PG Stakes was the Verity's Macstrak Minuet JW ShCM. Well Done all round!! From Eilish come the results of Carlow &DCC where Marian Sloan made up Maxine Moth's grandson her Austrene I'm Electric to his Irish title by winning BOB& GSD at only 25months old. RGSD was Killeen-King/Grieffe/Switzer's Pilipalas Grieg GSB was Kilpatrick's Sonsira Polgara The Sorceress and RGSB Mooney's Conysluck Sun Shadow. Jo Davidson-Poston has let me know that Kay Mense who had been in a a residential home since having strokes in March has died She had been showing two Papillons bred by her sister Frances Daly.and had been looking forward to attending Crufts with them . Sadly it was not to be Carolyne Allward-Chebsey asks that if anyone has had to pay the Post Office for The postage and Collection of their copy of the Newsletter to contact her and also to keep the card which came through your letter box as proof, It was the responsibility of the Post Office to frank the envelopes and they obviously did not do the job for which the Club pays a healthy surcharge and Carolyne wants to get repayment for those who suffered. She is at a loss how to help Overseas Members who may have suffered the same fate and hopes they will contact her so if you know of anyone get them to get in touch with her and at least she will send another copy. Needless to say she will not use this service again and is back to licking hundreds of stamps!! |

All of us will have been saddened to have heard of the passing of Norma Staff. Although Norma had been unwell for some time we had all had hopes that she would recover, somehow it did not seem possible that the time would come when the world of papillons would not have Norma along with it. For the vast majority of us in the breed Norma had simply been there all the time. Norma's contribution to the breed, indeed to the world of dogs, will be recorded elsewhere far more eruditely than I can put it. All I can say is that wherever there are papillons throughout the world the name of Ringlands will be known, such was the influence and reputation of her dogs. Some 108 champion papillons throughout the world, including 13 International Champions carry the Ringlands name. Norma also had considerable success in Pomeranians with 17 champions carrying the Ringlands name, of which four were UK Champions including Ann Winters well known Ch Ringlands Gaiety Girl at Rosskear who won 21 CC's. It is however Norma the person we will miss, we are at least comforted by the thought that the name of Ringlands will continue to flourish under the capable guidance of Pat, as it has done over the last few years. It may be a cliché but it is nonetheless true to say we will not see Norma's like again. Over the years we have lost many of our characters and perhaps Norma was the last and maybe the biggest of them all. Her knowledge and experience in the breed goes without saying, and it is a tribute to her that she was so willing to share that knowledge and experience whether you were a newcomer or an old timer. Norma was, as we all know, great company, a wonderful sense of humour, totally approachable whether exhibiting or judging, you could always rely on a frank and honest answer to your questions, you may not have liked the answer but you knew it was an honest one. Mark and I, like so many, will remember her with great fondness. Our first show dog was bought from Norma back in the early 1970's, a black and white dog called Ringlands Oridan. With Oridan we learnt much about showing and achieved the dizzy heights of winning our first Reserve CC with him at Paignton under the late all rounder Mrs Hermione Warner Hill. The first Club Championship Show we attended we saw Norma take BIS with the exquisite black and white bitch Ch Ringlands Fairy Doll. So many breeders, so many kennels have cause to be grateful to Norma, many here and overseas based their success upon her breeding and have continued to do up until the present day. Indicative of the great respect, admiration and indeed love with which she was held throughout the world of papillons is the numerous messages of sympathy from throughout the world which have been posted on the Internet. A great supporter of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club, Norma served terms as Secretary and as Show Manager and was made a Vice President in 1968. In 2002 she was elected President of the Club and I know she was greatly pleased by this honour, as were the Club when she accepted. Although very poorly Norma attended the Club's 80th Anniversary Show in 2003 and despite it being a long day for her I know how delighted she was to see so many of her friends there and simply just to be at a Club Show again. To daughter Pat and her husband Sandy and to son Richard goes our deepest condolences and we hope it gives them a little comfort to know we too share their loss. To Pat in particular because over the last year or so during Norma's illness Pat has worked many many hours to ensure that the dogs were campaigned as Norma would have wished despite the many other calls upon her time. Despite this very heavy workload Pat's one concern has been to ensure that the Ringlands tradition has been carried on and I think everyone will agree that Norma would have been, and I am sure was, extremely proud of all Pat achieved during this time. We will all miss you Norma but I am sure wherever there is a show with Papillons being shown you will be there looking down and smiling. The Funeral will take place on Monday 11 October at 12.15 pm at All Saints Church, Upper Clatford, Nr Andover, Hants. and will be followed by a Private Cremation at Salisbury Crematorium. Those wishing to send flowers should send these to the Funeral Directors Dunning Funeral Service at 4 Church Close, Andover, Hants SP10 2DP Tel 01264 334436. Alternatively Donations can be sent to the same address made payable to Naomi House, which is a local Children's Hospice. I am pleased to report that Beryl Lambert is now back home after major surgery, in fact Beryl was able to return home on her birthday something she had hoped to do. I am sure her many friends would like to drop ehr card and am equally sure it will give her a great boost to hear from themm. Her address is 23 Hathersage Avenue, North Hykehaqm, Nr Lincoln LN6 8LJ. After such major surgery Berly will need to recuperate for quite a while but I know she is hoping to be well enough to attend the Northern and Eastern Papillon Club Championship Show in November and we all hope to see her there. Sadly Ann and Malcolm Fowler have lost Ch Anncolm Valentino, he was just over 8 years old. By Ch. Caswell Copper Tiger out of Tussalud Winter Games Valentino took the Group 2 position at the City of Birmingham Championship show in 2000. A rich red and white, he was a loveable dog to live with and needless to say Ann and Malcolm are feeling his loss greatly especially as it was so unexpected. At the World Agility Championships Dawn Weaver and Dreamer (Tonring Just William) took a very creditable 14th position. Unfortunately the Small Dog Team did not do so well but the Medium dogs came third, a great result for British Agility. |

Dominating this weeks notes is the sad news that Norma Staff passed away last Thursday after about two years of ill health during which she has been cared for by her devoted daughter Pat. It will take years to fully evaluate the contribution that Norma and her Ringlands Kennel has made to the Papillon both in this country and many overseas ones. That contribution has not just been in the many many champions both here and abroad bearing the Ringlands Affix but in the generous help and advice given by Norma to so many people which has resulted in better Papillons being produced. So many Kennels are founded on Ringlands Stock that it is hard to find a Pedigree that does not contain at least one. Her lovely Champions are too many to name but I must mention my own particular favourites Ch R Red Ribbons and Ch R Haute Ecole, the epitome of R/Ws. To talk to Norma was always rewarding and she had a wonderful sense of humour apart from an encyclopaedic knowledge of the breed. She had also made up many Pomeranian Chs and bred one of Jo Braddon's Ch Cocker Spaniels. The tributes flooding into the Internet say it all. She is impossible to replace and will be greatly missed all over the World. To Pat , Sandy and Alex we send all our condolences Her Funeral will take place on Monday 11th October at 12.15 pm at All Saints Church, Upper Clatford, Nr Andover Hants and will be followed by a private Cremation at Salisbury Crematorium. Those wishing to send flowersshould send these to the Funeral directors Dunning Funeral Service at 4 Church Close Andover Hants SP10 2DP tel: 01264 334436 Alternatively donations can be sent to the same address made payable to Naomi House which is a local Children's Hospice. I cannot leave the subject of Norma without paying tribute to the ammount of good she did by helping her local Hospital and various other Charities Yet another field in which she will be missed. Mrs Vam Brempt who I think was from Belgium judged at Belfast Ch Show and made her BOB and BCC Mrs Mac Gregor's Pyatshaw Silver Tassie with RBCC the Skelton's Adnamashan As Cute As A DCC went Jeanette Mackay's Jaylanjay Amastunner and RDCC was MacGregor's Pyarshaw White Heat Best Puppy was Dreamer's Begaville New Edition At Bankshill. I cannot give you all thre resuls of the Scottish Papillon Club Ch Show bu I think I am right in saying that Jeanette's Amastunner won BIS and DCC his second in the weekend and that Jo Davidson-Poston's Spinnillons A Touch Of Heather took the BCC and is now a champion. I hope to have a fuller report next week Mrs Lynne Connell of Larvik Papillons in Australia is very ill and I am sure would welcome a card to cheer her up Lynne kindly donated the sashes for the CC winners at the 8oth Anniversary Ch Show The address is: Mrs Lynne Connell. 34 Nelson Terrace, Alice Springs, NT 0870 Australia The N&E Cos Papillon Club are running two 'Hands On' Assessments on the following dates : Saturday 23rd October at Finningley Village Hall and Sunday 7th November at Barlby Nr Selby while their Ch Show is taking place at the same venue Christine Chapman will be the Trainer. Bookings in advance to Secy John Edson please and costs are Members of the Club £10 Non Members £12. I end on another sad note I understand that the sweet little R/W Ch Anncolm Valentino has died at the early age of 9. He is sadly missed by Anne and Malcolm |
