The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club is to hold a Christmas Cracker Day on Saturday 4 December at the Graham Alan Centre, Southam Nr Coventry and it is hoped to make this an Annual event. Arrangements for the various activities to be included are still under way and full details will be given in due course. It does however promise to be an exciting and enjoyable day so do make sure you keep the date free and keep an eye out both in these notes and in the Newsletter for further details. I also mentioned recently the Seminars being organised for the Club by Doug Colyer, the Club is also looking into the possibility of organising some more, one in the South West and another in the Midlands. Hopefully I shall have further details of these within the near future.
At Blackpool Dog CC and BOB went to Ch Inixia So Be It For Elendil (Inixia Party Pooper out of Azinghar Perfect Bliss At Inixia) owned by Ann Borg and Sue Stanbury and bred by Sue. Bitch CC went to Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Rainbow's Cameo (Ch Tussalud Story Teller out of Ir and GB Ch Ringlands Rainbow), I believe this is her second. Reserves went to Dolly's Serenglade Gold Sovereign in dogs, bred by Linda Greenslade he is by Denemore Treasure Chest of Inixia out of Snowlord La Bamba at Serenglade and in bitches to Sue Austin and Jane Thompson's Jhanakia Highland Breeze (Inixia French Resistance out of Pinelan Golden Starlight. Best Puppy was Joan Savage's Abbeyton Beautiful Dreamer (Northlyte Silver Dream out of Abbeyton Spring Blossom). At the Show young Sophie Langdon's Christea Midnight Rose For Skyvana passed her KC Good Citizen Bronze Award, I am told they are not allowed to take higher awards at shows, and was presented with her award by the Mayoress. Needless to say Sophie was over the moon with this particularly as earlier at the KCJO Summer Camp she had obtained a Gold Certificate with her Border Collie Jet.
Another Pap that has done well recently in the KC Good Citizen awards is Debbie Deuchar's Ringlands Golden Dollar (known as Dime) who gained his Gold Award at just 17 months, he gained the Bronze Award in September last year and his Silver earlier this year in March. Debbie was kind enough to send me a list of all the tests the dog has pass to achieve this award, and apparently the owner too has to answer various questions about responsible ownership. I am sure a few of mine would find difficulty in passing some of these tests, particularly the one regarding the food refusal where the dog has to wait to be told to eat a titbit in a bowl. I am afraid mine are rather used to having their titbits given to them whilst they are in a group and often it is a case of first come first gets so I don't think some of them would wait to be told!!!!!
Congratulations also to Lynda Stangle and Alex (Hemdale Alexis The Avenger) on their second place in the Eukanuba Circular Knockout at the Axstane Open Agility Show on 19th June 2004,qualifying them for Crufts 2005. Alex is also a T.V.star in the making, look out for him on children's television "In Two Minds". Another Papillon Television Star.
In Ireland at the Kilkenny Championship Show BOB & GSD went to Miss M. Clarke's Austrene Copper Glow, GSB to Mrs. J. Kilpatrick's Sonsirae Polgara the Sorceress (her 3rd major & only 20 months old), RGSD to Mrs. C. Woods-Cox's Austrene I'm A Hollywood Hero at Carasweet and RGSB to Mrs. C. Woods-Cox's Austrene I'm A Show Stopper at Carasweet
Eileen Roberts had a nasty accident when she managed to fall down the stairs at home and ended up with a broken ankle. She will be out of commission for a good few weeks fortunately her daughter Caroline is there to help out with the dogs. We all wish Eileen a speedy recovery.
I was sorry to hear from Sylvia Alcock that Joy Standen had not been at all well. She had been in and out of hospital for a while and is now in warden controlled accommodation. Sadly she has had to give up all her dogs, Sylvia has helped out and all have now been resettled. Sylvia tells me that she is sure that Joy would love to hear from her old friends, sadly she finds it difficult talking on the telephone for two long but I am sure would appreciate a card of letter. Her new address is 7 Crown Gardens,
Alconbury, Huntingdon PE28 4HP.
I understand from Ron Stewart who is organising the Super Match Challenge between Affenpinschers, Pugs, King Charles Spaniels and Papillons that so far there has been no response from any Papillon folk. You will all remember that the competition is open to any papillon who between Richmond Championship Show 2003 and Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show 2004 (both included) wins a CC, Res CC or Best Puppy or takes 2 First places in qualifying classes. The Match which will be held on the 20 November 2004 at the Hanover International Hotel, Bromsgrove will be a prestigious affair as anyone who read details of the previous match in Dog World will know. Anyone who wants more details can get them from Ron Stewart who is organising the event on behalf of the KCS and he can be contacted at ron.stewart2@ukonline.co.uk ., telephone 01373 461776 , or at 7 Goulds Lane Frome , Somerset , BA11 3DN. Ron tells me that he has had entries for other breeds but not for papillons and I do hope that our breed will be well represented at this competition. The Club of course has happily given some sponsorship towards the evening's events and as I wrote earlier Ron has obtained quite a good amount of sponsorship elsewhere, so there should be some wonderful prizes on offer. No doubt the event will also be well covered by the Dog Press so a chance for you all to get your dog's, and of course your own, faces in the paper!!!! |

I gave details recently of the 'Hands On Assessment' Seminar being held by the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club in September in Bury St Edmunds, all places for which are taken. The Club is now running another such Seminar on 14th November, and the venue for this one will be the Albert Village School, Occupation Road, Swadlincote, Nr. Derby (approx 6 miles from Junction 11 M42). It will start at 10.30 am and refreshments will be provided throughout the day for those attending. It will be limited to 20 places. Please contact Lyn Richards on 01283 212281 as soon as possible to ensure your place! Cost: £15.00, payable upon booking, please make your cheque payable to The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club and send it to Lyn. (23, Occupation Road, Albert Village, Swadlincote, Nr. Derby DE11 8HA). Nearer to the date Lyn will send out details and a map of how to get to the venue to those who have booked places along with the KC papers explaining what is required. The KC 'Hands On' Assessment is a mandatory assessment for those wishing to further their judging career. With that in mind, it is expected that places will soon be taken so don't leave it to long to book your place.
Helen Verity tells me that her Macstrak Minuet JW has now attained his Show Certificate of Merit, I believe he is perhaps the fourth papillon to do so, and needles to say Helen is delighted even though it means it takes longer to fill in all those entry forms. I hear Jeanette Mackay has not been too well lately and has had a short stay in hospital and as a result has not been able to attend any shows for a while. As she is feeling a little better she managed to get to the Caithness Canine Open Show with Jaylanjay Amastunner JW where she took BOB, Toy Group and ended up RBIS. I am sure this cheered Jeanette up immensely particularly as this was a repeat performance of the same show last year where again Amastunner took RBIS. This makes his 6th RBIS to date. Also in Scotland BOB at the Bon Accord Canine Show went to Sandra Wilson with Imago Festoon. Helen Wheeler who has taken over as Acting Secretary of the South Wales Papillon Club has asked me to mention that the Club has been advised that as a Licence was not in force for the 2004 Open Show the Club was in breach of Regulation F6 and F7. As a result the Club has been fined £100 and the licence for the open show 2005 has been revoked. However the results for the 2004 Open Show stand , including Junior Handling.
At Windsor Dog CC and BOB went to Irene and Glen Robb's Gleniren Monogram (Ch Ringlands Hologram out of Sunshoo Imascarlet Erika at Gleniren) and being his third CC this gives him his title subject to KC Confirmation. In bitches it was a fourth CC for Jo Davidson Poston's recently crowned Ch Spinillons A Touch of Hope. Reserves went to Carine Rutten's Int Ch Anthony in dogs, goodness knows how many he has now, and Farleysbane Unsung Melody at Kingshaven owned by Jean and Roger Banfield and bred by Sue Victor and Emma McLaughlin in bitches. She is by Amicae Rudi Bare out of Lordsrake Whispering Dreams at Kingshaven. Best Puppy was Mr C D & Mrs D Y Brunsdon's Beverston Hope & Glory at Havenbar. Also at Windsor young Sophie Langdon completed the Bronze Award with two more of her papillons, Christea Crackling Crumpet with Skyvana and Graycaz Panston Fire. I understand there were another two papillons taking the test that also passed but unfortunately do not have their details. Congratulations also to young Abby Gomez who took second place in the YKC Stakes with her papillon 'Boots'. |

Anne Richardson was the judge at Windsor Ch Show and she gave BOB and DCC to Glenn & Irene Robb's Gleniren Scarlet Monogram, this was his third and he is now our latest Champion - Well Done Glenn and Irene!! RDCC went to Miss Rutten's Ch Antony. BCC was Jo Davidson-Poston's Ch Spinillons A Touch Of Hope and RBCC was Jean & Roger Banfield's Farleysbane Unsung Melody at Havensbar, Best Puppy went to the Brundsdon's Beverston Hope and Glory at Havenbar.
I have had the following note from Angela Cavill secretary of S Cos C A "At Southern Counties this year I received a petition from Papillon Exhibitors requesting Minor Puppy Classes. As there was no name to which I could reply I should be grateful if you could mention in your Breed Notes that my Committee will be more than pleased to add these for next year unless we hear opposing views)! Not every breed wants this class so it was not added automatically. For future reference, it does not need a petition, a simple request either from an exhibitor on the day or later from the Breed Club Secretary will always get results. We are always happy to have constructive comments that will help your breed." ( I was most impressed by this action by a no doubt very busy secretary and I hope that it will be appreciated!)
Some show news from Scotland Aileen Goodwin writes that Sandra Wilson and Imago Festoon went BOB at Bon Accord Show at Aberdeen and had the thrill of taking him in the Group ring for the first time.
Joan Savage of Abbeyton Papillons who usually keeps me up to date with happenings in Scotland ( thank you Joan!) now finds herself in the spotlight with the successes of her A Silver Rain and A Beautiful Dreamer! After Silver Rain collected a CC at Border Union Beautiful Dreamer (Brodie) took B Puppy at Blackpool then at Paisley &Dist CS she won BOB 1st AV Toy Puppy& Special Best Puppy Toy Group and 2nd in the Stakes Class which paid for their day out! Next day at Annandale CS she won 1st in Grad, BOB and Group 2. All this at only 11 months old Brodie I mean, not Joan! Keep up the good work!
Carolyne Allward-Chebsey has asked me to pass on the following bits of information; "The Papillon (Butterfly Dog ) Club is running a KC 'Hands On' Assessment day on Sunday 14th November 2004 starting at 10.30 am Refreshments will be provided throughout the day to those that attend. The Venue is Albert Village School, Occupation Rd, Swadlincote Nr Derby.
As there are only 20 places these need to be booked and paid for in advance. Please contact Lyn Richards on 01283 212281 (e-mail: engs@staffsecurity.co.uk) to ensure your place Cost is £15, cheques payable to The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club and sent to Lyn at 23 Occupation Rd, Albert Village Swadlincote, Nr Derby DE11 8HA. Nearer to the day, Lyn will send details and a map to the Venue to those who have booked places together with the KC papers explaining what is required. The KC 'Hands On' Assessment is mandatory for those wishing to further their judging career and it is expected that places will soon be taken so don't leave it too long to book."
Carolyne also tells me that the Club is to hold a "Christmas Cracker Day" on Saturday 4th December 2004 at the Graham Alans Centre Southam Nr Coventry and it is hoped to make this an annual event. More details will be announced later. There will be surprises to all that will be kept under close wraps!! It promises to be an exciting and enjoyable day so keep the date free"
The South of England Papillon Club is also holding a Breed Specific Seminar combined with KC Rules and Regulations test at New Haw Community Centre, Nr Woking Surrey on 21st November 2004 Veronica Hourihane will cover the Standard and there will be a Hands On opportunity. Peter Taylor will deal with the Rules & Regs. Inclusive cost will be £20 to include Lunch and refreshments or for £15 to attend only one of the sessions with Lunch. For more information contact Sue Stanbury on 01392 369759
The southern Club have booked Chievely Village Hall for a Christmas Party/Match on 18th December 2004. The cost will be £5 per head which will include a Baby Puppy Walk and Puppy Match in the morning followed by a Two Course Christmas Lunch with Crackers, Party Hats. Mince Pies and plenty of Festive spirit the afternoon will stage the adult match and a J Handling Class and games. It seems there will be plenty to do in the breed during the Winter!

I am sure most of you are far to busy to watch television but perhaps some like me occasionally tune in to the Soaps, in particular to Emmerdale. Over the last week or so Tootsie (Ch Lynflyer Perfect Lady) has had quite a bit of exposure being involved in one of the main story lines on the go. I am sure many of you that have seen this will, like me, have thought what a credit this little bitch is to the breed. Apart from the fact that she is so well behaved she really is an exquisite representative of the breed, with that gorgeous head and expression and beautiful ears and fringing it seems as if whatever angle the camera takes on her she always looks good, showing that lovely head. An ideal example for some to study perhaps before they judge???? The Breed Notes printed in Dog World on July 2 should have included details of Karen and Steve Maskell's Kazkell Dillon's Dream who at 13 months of age at the Newmarket & DCS Open Show had taken BOB and had gone on to win a very good Toy Group. Certainly the details were in the report I sent off to Dog World (copies of which I keep) but for some reason Dog World have omitted to print these. Disappointing for Karen and Steve, having kindly taken the time and trouble to let me know (and of course Breed Note Writers do depend on others for contributions to keep the notes going) as Dillon has been having a successful run lately. I hope Dog World will now print this result and perhaps be kind enough to confirm the omission was theirs in light of the omission of some of the results recently from one of our Breed Club Open Shows. I have in fact recently written to Dog World as having done a little research through a few back copies of Dog World there does seem to be a variance in what I understood was Dog World's criteria. I have come across a number of cases where it would appear details of wins other than BOB have been printed for Open Shows, both Breed Open and All Breed Open Shows, and can understand the frustration of folk when they see their results are omitted. Hopefully Dog World will be able to clarify the position and allow me to print their response. At SWKA Dog CC and BOB went to Irene and Glen Robb's recently crowned Ch Gleniren Monogram whose breeding I gave last week. Bitch CC went to Sue Morrell and Thesbina Teague's Serenglade Enchanted Lady For Temelora by Kingshaven Rooney at Serenglade out of Serenglade Serene I believe this is her second CC. Reserves went to Jean and Roger Banfields Amicae Star Charm At Kingshaven in dogs, bred by Mary Whitehill he is by Martika Skywalker out of Kingshaven Quazy Rythm. Reserve Bitch CC went to Sue Stanbury's Inixia Mademoiselle Violette, by Inixia Tricky Ricky At Rossacre out of Inixia Velour, she was bred by Sue's daughter Joanne. Best Puppy was M Comfrie's Frasermar Ice Queen whose breeding I am afraid I do not have. I hear from Denise Welsh that Harlie the Magnificent and Dreamer have been continuing their winning ways in Agility. At the UK Agility's first show they both competed in the Champion Jumping Class which Harlie won and then in the Champion Agility Class Dreamer won. At the All Ireland Toy Dog Championship Show BOB & GSB went to Diane Mooney's Omaonaig Flame of Tara, GSD to Diane's Omaonaig Parcheval, RGSD to Killeen-King, Switzer & Grief's Pilipalas Grieg and RGSB to Mr. & Ms. Neally's Carrigteen Aglia Tau. Having earlier given some results from Ireland I wrongly gave the name of Diane's bitch as Flame of Triad and having heard from Diane it seems that the printers over there have a problem in getting the right details into the catalogue (fortunately I had picked up the mis spelling of her prefix) Diane tells me she has now settled in well into her new home in Ireland, it certainly seems to have been quite an adventure getting herself and all the dogs across. Fortunately she had some help from Anne Worrow who made the journey with her with a large horse box so that everything could be fitted in. Schedules will shortly be out for the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Open Show, don't forget these can also be printed from the Club web site at http://www.papillonclub.co.uk |

George Baxter from Scotland was the judge at SWKA Ch show and his DCC and BOB was Glenn& Irene Robb's Gleniren Scarlet Monogram -another BOB to add to his Windsor one! RDCC was Jean & Roger Banfield's Amicae Star Charm At Kingshaven. BCC went to Sue Morrell & Thesbina Teague's Serenglade Enchanted Lady For Temelora and RBCC was Sue Stanbury's Inixia Mademoiselle Violette. Best Puppy was Comrie's Frasermar Ice Queen At the All Ireland Group Ch Show BOB and GSB was Mooney's Omaonaig Flame Of Tara, RGSB was Eilish Neally's Carrigteen Aglia Tau, GSD was Mooney's Omaonaig Parcheval and RGSD went to Killeen-King's Pilipalas Grieg. I am sorry to say that Eileen Roberts suffered a broken ankle when coming down the stairs a couple of weeks ago and is now having an enforced rest! Make the most of the rest Eileen and I hope you will soon be back on both feet ! |

I was sorry to hear from Shirley Colyer that Brenda Whetham had passed away. Brenda, whose prefix was Maidenhall, had a very nasty accident a couple of years or so ago when she was knocked of her bicycle and was for some time in a coma. She seemed slowly to have recovered but it soon became evident that the injuries she had sustained had affected her more seriously than had been thought and she began having problems firstly with her memory. Eventually it became clear she could no longer cope and as a result she went into a home where she could be given the care she needed. At the time of her accident Shirley and Doug took in all Brenda's dogs to look after, including a number of elderly ones, and since it became evident that Brenda would not be able to have them back Shirley and Doug have continued to care for them all. Around the East Anglia area Brenda was well known to us all, always a happy and cheerful person who simply loved being with her dogs. All Rounder Brenda Banbury judged the breed at Paignton. Carine Rutten certainly had an exciting day making breed history in that both CC's went to overseas dogs owned by her. Dog CC and BOB went to Carine's well known Int Ch Antony, this was his second CC and after a number of Reserve CC's was well overdue. His first CC came at Manchester this year under Ellis Hulme where he went on to Group 2, and this time he was again placed in the Group taking the Group 4 position. Antony is by Connection Coronationcard out of Pamparix Charmant Blanche. In bitches it was a first CC for Carine's Up and Down's Donna Bella, a daughter of Anthony out of Rashana van Golden Sinja she has a Reserve CC also to her credit. Reserves went to Jo Davidson Poston's Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons Sh.CM in dogs, by Ch Ibstock Mark of Distinction out of Daneview Dainty Blue Bonnet. Bright Spark also took 2nd in a well filled Opens Stakes Class. In bitches the Reserve CC went to Tykkydewas Twylytepolka to Inixia, jointly owned by Michelle Osborne and Sue Stanbury and by Tykkydewas Twylytedancer out of Sybella at Tykkydewas. Michelle also took Best Puppy with Tykkydewas Masterdarcy. Sorry I don't have details of his breeding. I mentioned recently that a number of Papillons took their Bronze Hodd Citizen Test at Windsor and now hear that two of them were Jo Davidson Poston's Spinillons Touch Of Hope and Spinillons Touch of Heather, both of whom passed. Carol White who is relatively new to the breed and who lives in Gloucestershire has been having some fun with her first Papillon, Abbeyton High Flier, bred by Joan Savage, in Agility. Yoda, as High Flier is known, is now 2 years old and is in her, and Carol's, first year of competing in agility. Yoda won out of starters with her 1st clear round (at her 1st outdoor competition in April) and since then has had two 7th places at Open minis at Avon (Lanark); a 3rd place at Prestwick; and she got a 1st place in Novice at the first UK Agility. Yoda usually jumps 15" height so over the lower 12" jumps means that Carol is going to have to work a lot harder to keep up with Yoda. Not content with being an Agility star Yoda has turned her attentions to the film world and has recently had her first acting part which she took in her stride. A Belgium (amateur) film company are making a movie about 'one man and his dog holidaying in the Cotswolds' (currently in editing). The director was so impressed with how well behaved and photogenic Yoda was that she was promoted from her bit-part and now has star billing and is calling his film "Together with Yoda". Unfortunately Carol won't see it on the big screen at the multi-plex as it's for the non-professional film market (Like the Stroud Film Festival which shows each September). Hopefully Carol will get a copy of the finished movie around Christmas. Unfortunately it seems that the advertisement for the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club's Open Show on 5 September which should have appeared in Dog World a couple of weeks ago was omitted for some reason. Hopefully this will be rectified but in case there is a problem I will mention again that entries close on Friday 6 August. If you have not received a schedule please contact Carolyne Allward Chebsey on 01543 256394 alternatively you can of course print a full copy of the schedule and entry form from the Club's web site at http://www.papillonclub.co.uk The judges for the show of course will be Don Mahoney from the Mondelise Kennels in Australia and his wife Sharon. Don will be doing the main classes and Sharon the Junior Handling and Benevolent Fund Classes. I know Don and Sharon are both greatly looking forward to their trip, before our show they will be taking in the Swedish Specialty and have quite an itinerary planned so I expect the few days they will be staying with us before the show will be a welcome rest (unless I can find them some work to do!!!). Unfortunately it means Mark and I won't of course be exhibiting at the show, but perhaps we can persuade Don to go over the dogs whilst he is here (as if we could stop him!!!!) The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club has arranged a Hands On Seminar to take place on 10th October 2004 at Priorswood Community Centre, Taunton, Somerset, with 10 delegates in the morning and 10 delegates in the afternoon. For further details please contact the organiser Mrs Sue Morrell on 01823 277722. Places will be in demand, so it is suggested that you contact Sue as soon as possible to book your place. Buffet and Refreshments available throughout the day. The Club has now organised 3 of these seminars (South East, South West and the Midlands) and are looking for a volunteer member to hold one (or two) in the north of the Country. If you are willing and able, please contact the Secretary (Carolyne Allward Chebsey on 01543 256394) who will give you the help needed to get one organised. The Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club held their Summer Open Show on Sunday 18 July at Thorpe Willoughby Village Hall, this really is a lovely venue and as always with this Club it was a pleasant and enjoyable show. The entry could have been better and it is disappointing that there seems to be less effort made to support breed clubs than used to be made a few years ago. The Northern and Eastern Club like all of our breed clubs have always made great efforts to help the breed and exhibitors in many ways and perhaps some who have befitted from this in the past could have made more of an effort to support them. Folk are often quick to complain about something in their breed clubs, often those who don't realise the effort committee members put in, perhaps because they have never done it. It is a shame when such efforts are not supported. At least the Calendar competition was well supported, I believe there were something in the region of 100 photographs submitted and there were indeed some very enjoyable and sometimes amusing pictures on display. BIS went to Queenie Bruce and Amanda Bruce Jackson with their bitch Tijuana Georgiou. At the Irish Ladies Canine Club Championship Show BOB & GSD went to Marion Sloan's Austrene I'm Electric, GSB to Mrs Killeen-King's Rising Star of Kilcormack Soiam at Dolcissimo (from Puppy Bitch), RGSD to Mrs Killeen-King's Penang Goldenleas Rougemist and RGSB to Mr. & Mrs. Pearson's Tedlyn Twilight Breeze At the Fife Kennel Assoc's Open Show Hilary Byers (nee Chappell) took the BPIS award with her Chappell Tango Two, her second such award having taken BPIS in March at the Papillon Club of Scotland's Open Show. A good day for Hilary as she had also taken BOB at Fife with Abbeyton Silver Charm at Chappell Congratulations are due to Lynda Stangle with Hemdale Alex the Avenger and Dawn Weaver with Tonring Just William both of whom have qualified to represent Britain in the Agility World Championships in Italy. I understand there were just three qualifying places available so a very creditable achievement and I am sure we all wish them success at the World Championships. Just missing out on a qualifying place was Denise Welsh with Harlie The Magnificent. Harlie of course has had an outstanding agility career but Denise says that this time she just found the four rounds required a little too much given her age, she is after all 10 years old (yes 10) next month. Denise has decided that Harlie will now retire from top class agility, although she will still be in action at some shows these will be slightly less energetic. Harlie will now be able to take life a little slower, she has certainly earnt it and has done much to raise the profile of papillons in this activity. |

All her friends in East Anglia will be very sorry to hear that Brenda Whetham passed away peacefully last Thursday. For some years Brenda has been cared for in a Nursing Home in Ipswich ever since she was knocked off her bicycle and suffered severe head injuries, over the years she has gradually deteriorated until in the end she could not communicate or recognise anyone. She was 78 and leaves behind a son and two daughters also her devoted brother Don who often attended shows with her. Her dogs have been cared for by Doug and Shirley Colyer. I met Brenda when I arrived here in 1969 and she was a most lively and attractive personality When married she spent some time living in USA and on her return she became a teacher of backward children. She first became involved in Papillons after meeting Alex Foreman at the Ipswich Dog Training Club where she was handling a small mongrel but after seeing Alex's paps perform she soon acquired a Papillon from the Greenhedges Kennel in Norfolk and became involved in Obedience and Beauty showing. Brenda often turned up at shows with her dog in a box firmly secured to her trusty bicycle and at least one was trained to ride in the basket! She was involved in many things and was a great worker for her church, all her various interests came together some years ago when we all attended her 70th Birthday Party in Museum St Ipswich Methodist Church Hall - a very happy day. It seems so sad that such a vital and lively person's life had to end in such a very sad way. A Memorial Service will take place in The above Methodist Chapel on Saturday 24th July at 12 noon. The funeral is family only but any donations are asked for The Felixstowe Branch of The Blue Cross and can be sent to the Co-operative Funeral Directors 10 Upper Orwell St Ipswich. My Condolences to the family. There are two Ch Shows to report on this week. First Paignton where Brenda Banbury was the Judge DCC & BOB went to Mrs C Rutten's Int Ch Antony, RDCC was Jo Davidson-Poston's Ir Ch Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons Sh Ch The BCC went to Mrs Ruttens Up and Down Donna Bella, Antony's daughter. I was sorry to hear from Denise Sheridan that her father is suffering from primary liver cancer which is in an advanced stage, having been through this many years with my own other I know how difficult it must be for her at the moment. Denise would like to thank everyone who has been kind enough to send best wishes to her, such kind thoughts do mean a lot at such times. Denise is particularly grateful to Gill Salisbury and Ellen Bailey-Turner and Mary Barlow of the Shazzabars Papillons for all the help offered with her dogs. Denise is hoping to be able to return to the ring shortly provided everything goes well with her father, let us hope so. At East of England Dog CC and BOB went to Norma Staff and Pat Munn's Denemore Chasing Rainbows, bred by Dolly Kavanagh. Bitch CC went to Liz and Alan Bartam's Burghbridge URA Golden Lady, by Burghbridge Fly For Gold out of Ch Daneview Dainty Bella Bella this is I believe her third CC thus giving her her title subject to KC confirmation. A Memorial Service for Brenda Whetham was held on 24 July at the Ipswich Methodist Chapel. Whilst the funeral was a private family one donations can be sent in aid of The Felixstowe Branch of The Blue Cross to the Co-operative Funeral Directors,10 Upper Orwell St., Ipswich. Our condolences go the Brenda's two daughters and to her brother Don. I was sorry to hear that Cath Wookey from Australia had passed away. Cath with her son Royce Walters had the Alljo prefix which had had much success over the years in Australia. Cath and Royce visited the UK on a number of occasions and imported a number of UK papillons over the years. They had the first, and I understand in Australia the only, son of Ch Charthamcoombe Tristan, being Ch Daneview Corrennie bred of course by Anna McKnight and later took back Aus Ch Khanness Frosty Miracle, a sister I believe of Ch Khanness Flower Power sired by our own Ch Nouveau Nouveau Lord of the Rings. Frosty Miracle mated to Corrennie produced Aus Ch Alljo Frosty Menace who achieved much success in the ring. Also from the UK they imported Aus Ch Dourhu Double Diamond bred by Ruth Johnson. These English imports gained a lot of success for Cath and Royce both in the ring and through later generations. Cath had been unwell for a number of years. Strangely Mark and I had been entertaining some visitors from Australia and in the evening had been watching a copy I had of the Papillon Club of NSW Champ Show in 1998 where Royce was the judge, and it was the morning after that the news of Cath's passing reached me. Our condolences go to Royce. At Leeds Bitch CC and BOB went to Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Rainbow's Cameo (Ch Tussalud Story Teller out of Ir and GB Ch Ringlands Rainbow), and I believe this is her third CC thus giving her her title subject to KC confirmation. Dog CC, his first, went to Liz and Alan Bartram's Burghbridge UR Classic Gold, litter brother to there recently crowned URA Golden Lady. Reserves went to Sunshoo Imascarlet Oscars for Gleniren in dogs and Kingshaven Truly Scrummy for Bobedi in bitches, being a repeat of the East of England results given above. Best Puppy was Carolyn and David Roe's Austrene Once Upon A Star for Sunshoo. Evelyn Needham has asked me to pass on her thanks to those folk who helped out when she was taken poorly at Windsor and who have since been in touch with offers of help. Since then Evelyn has twice been admitted to hospital and is going back on 27 July for an operation. Evelyn says that hopefully she will be out and about again soon. |

Carole Hatch left a purple folding chair at Leeds so if you have any knowledge of its whereabouts please contact Carole. She has computer problems so use the phone!! It is good to hear from Sue Belshaw from N Ireland who shows her dogs from her wheelchair. Sue has missed some recent shows as she has not been very well so it was great for her to go to Ballymena & Dist F A Open show with Belvisaj simply Chic( Miss Tori) and win BPIB, BOB , Group 3 and Reserve Best Puppy in Group. She tells me that Margaret Widera was at the Show looking really well and seemed to be enjoying her day out. I had a lovely phone call from Alex Foreman recently and we set the world to rights !! however one of the points of the call was to let you know her correct phone number whitch is: 01728 604941 I received a very interesting e-mail from a lady called Carol White who is the owner and handler of 2 yr old Abbeyton High Flyer bred by Joan Savage. Carol is a fellow Scot who lives in Gloucestershire and is a member of S Cotswold Dog TC. Her Pap is known there as 'Yoda The Rocket' and she has already won out of starters with her first clear round in April Since then they have been placed 7th at Lanark and 3rd at Prestwick, At UK Agility she won 1st in Novice So she is showing a lot of promise. However that is not her only claim to fame She has had her first Acting part!! a Belgian Film Company is making a movie about one man and his dog holidaying in the Cotswolds and the Director was so impressed with how well behaved and photogenic Yoda was that she was promoted from her 'bit' part to be star of the film and he is calling it 'Together With Yoda' Unfortunately it will not be on general release but is for the non-professiona market like the Stroud Film Festival which is each September The film which is now being edited should be out for Christmas. If I hear any more about how you will be able to see it I will let you know. |
