At Belfast Dog CC ( I believe his first) and BOB went to Dolly Kavanagh's Serenglade Gold Sovereign (Denemore Treasure Chest at Inixia out of Snowlord Labamba for Serenglade). Bitch CC went to Phil Shirley's Cordonrouge Ciara JW (Glasafon Welsh Gold at Cordonrouge out of Cordonrouge Classic Minx). Taking my life in my hands I believe this is Ciara's second CC. Reserves went to Miss J Miller's Feorlig Zweet Spirit (sorry I don't have details of his breeding) in dogs and Phil's Cordonrouge Cameo (younger sister to Ciara) in bitches. Best Puppy was Cameo.
I wrote recently regarding two papillons who had qualified for the new competition for Junior Warrant winners, and another papillon has now qualified being Phil's Cordonrouge Ciara JW qualifying at the Horsham and District Open Show. At the same show Phil's Cordonrouge Cameo took BP and BOB and went on to to win both the Toy Puppy Group and the Toy Group.
Sue Victor and her daughter Emma have not been having a very easy time of it lately. Having recently lost Sue's mum, Ian had a heart attack on 24 September and as I write these notes is currently in the Coronary Unit of the City Hospital, Nottingham. I am sure we all wish him a speedy recovery and hope things get better for Sue and Emma very soon.
Some very cheering news, it was nice to hear last week from Les Young who sounded as cheerful as ever although it must have been quite a few years since we have seen him at any of our shows. He mentioned in passing that he and Ruth had the week before celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary, receiving of course a telegram from the Queen congratulating them. Although belated I am sure they would both be delighted to hear from old friends and equally I am sure many of them would want to take the opportunity of passing on their congratulations. Les and Ruth are of course still members of the Club, Les being a Vice President and a previous Chairman of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club and still live at the same address in Ruskington.
Some agility news, congratulations Lynda Stangle and Hemdale Alex The Avenger who won Intermediate Agility at the Bromsgrove Agility Show, this win now makes him a Senior. |

Not much news this week now that the Ch Shows are coming farther apart, I see LKA advertised this week so Christmas can't be far off!! Let's have more news from the Open shows which keep us going all through the Winter!
Mavis Pratt is now home from hospital after a stroke and would love to hear from any friends - her address is: 19 Crown Court, Worksop, Nottingham.
I have been asked by the Secretary of East Midlands C S to inform you of a change of Papillon Judge. Donna Haydon will now judge at their show on Sunday 30th November at Wood Green in a change to the Schedule. Entries close on 20.10.03
I recently received a notice of the Agenda for discussion at the coming Breeds Liason Committee and note that The Newfoundland Breed Council have tabled a motion that in view of the rising number of entries in their Breed at Crufts they should have two judges appointed. I find it surprising that there has, so far, apparently been no action taken by the Papillon Breed Council to address this problem which we obviously share - remember this year's Crufts!! or do we forget so easily? |

| Dog World | Congratulations to Jo Davidson Poston and her husband on the birth of a baby boy on 2 October. He weighed in at 8lb 5 1/2 oz and both mother and baby are doing well.
The Funeral of Elizabeth Knowles took place on 2 October at St Lucy's Convent in Elizabeth's home village of Medstead in Hampshire. The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club was represented by our Secretary, Carolyne Allward-Chebsey and Vice President Bubbles Wood Davis. Also present from the club was Pat Munn, Liz and Alan Bartram and Jackie Hunter Worth. Carolyne tells me that a rather odd thing happened in that when the coffin was brought in a Butterfly flew in the chapel after it and during the course of the service fluttered around the coffin and windows. Strangely after the coffin left the Chapel the Butterfly also left and flew off into the sky, perhaps a fitting goodbye to someone who has worked so hard for the breed and for the Club. My apologies for a belated report in that Christine Brookfield's Graces In Disguise at Langness took BIS at the Mannin KA Open Show on the Isle of Man earlier last month. Christine jointly owns In Disguise's half brother, Graycaz in the Red, with the breed Caroline Lee Farnsworth. I am sorry I am unable to give any results from the South Wales Papillon Club Championship as no one has as yet posted the results, a shame as I know those unable to attend would have been interested in learning the results. Perhaps the S Wales Committee could arrange for someone to let the breed note writers know the show results. Carolyne Allward Chebsey has asked me to mention that anyone who has any items for the next Newsletter should let her have them by 31 October at the latest. Also would those who have made up champions since the last last issue please let Carolyne have a photo and a three generation pedigree for inclusion (Carolyne will of course return these but please include a s.a.e.) You can mail these to Carolyne at 44 Gilbert Road, Lichfield, Staffs, WS13 6AX, or email them to her at Carolyne@lorahspaps.co.uk I hope folk will make the effort, I am still awaiting quite a number of photos of champions for the club web site, few have bothered to respond to my earlier plea although I was delighted to have a response from Evelyn Needham with pictures of all her champions and more so to hear from her that she is keeping well. |

Congratulations to Jo Davidson-Poston on the birth of a son. Samuel Davidson-Poston was born on 2nd October weighing in at a hefty 8lb 5.5 ozs!! Jo had a water birth and hopefully both Mum and baby are doing well.
Carolyne Allward-Chebsey asks that if anyone has any item for the Newsletter would they send it to her before the end of the month. Final closing date is 31st October, Also if anyone has made up a Champion since the last issue please send a photo and 3 generation pedigree of the dog( both of which will be returned). The address is 44 Gilbert Rd, Lichfield, Staffs WS123 6AX or e-mail Carolyne@lorahspaps.co.uk

I hear from Jean Grant that it has been suggested that the Lincolnshire Toydog Club should be resurrected having been disbanded for some 6 or 7 years now. The area it would cover would be Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and as far down as the Wash in the south. Certainly there are a number of papillon exhibitors in that area so I would think there would be some support for this within the breed. Anyone interested in such a proposal should contact Jean, if only to confirm support, her e-mail is Granasil@aol.com telephone 01405 764711 I mentioned a little while ago the proposed Super Match Challenge to take place next year between four breeds, our own, Affenpinschers, Pugs and King Charles Spaniels and now have received some more details from Ron Stewart who is organising this on behalf of the KCS Club. They have of course hosted such events previously, the last one being a three breed match. The event will take place on 20 November 2004 at the Hanover International Hotel , Bromsgrove ( overlooking the M5/M42 junction). Following on from the information I have earlier regarding the Super Match to take place next year I have received some more information. Firstly one of the qualifying requirements was winning 3 First Placings and I have been asked to point out that this means 3 1st placings in Crufts qualifying classes. The Judges identities will only be made known on the day. STARPRINT have signed up to be official event photographers, and to make their services available for all those who may want that extra special "dressed occasion " photograph with their dogs. Julie Baldwin has also offered to make a special commemorative calendar for the event featuring dogs entered for the Parade of Champions. More detail as that idea is developed , but if it appeals , start thinking about how you could feature in it. I am told that work has already begun on the 2006 event planned, 2 of the 3 judges contracted and a provisional booking made at the hotel for the date of 18 November 2006. At Midland Counties Dog CC and BOB went to Kay Stewart's Ch Tussalud Tell Me Story. Best Puppy was Royal Highlander. Philip Shirley writes "The South of England Papillon Club was officially granted registration of title at the Kennel Club in London thus bringing the number of Papillon clubs in the UK to five. We would like to thank our founder members ,the many individuals and also the many dog clubs that supported our application , in particular thanks must go to The Papillon Club of Scotland, The Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club and The South Wales Papillon Club all of whom gave letters of support and we look forward to working with these successful clubs in the common pursuit of promoting our lovely breed." |
