Some good news about Susie Jones, one of the staff from the cottage hospital phoned me to say Susie is much better and has been moved to the Walnut Tree Hospital, Walnut Tree Lane, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 1BE. Where she is making  good progress, this lady, who has Pugs is taking the dog papers in and reading the breed notes and she says Susie is so pleased hear all the news. She is expected to stay for a while yet so do send a card to cheer her up.

At Blackpool Championship Show, the Judge was Mr G Davis who found his principle winners in: Dog CC & BOB: TURNER, Mr J & THE LATE MR G TURNER Ch Bodebi Rhythm Is A Dancer, Res Dog CC : MAGRI Mr J Frasermar Farenheit For Rozamie, Bitch CC :  ROBB Mrs I & Mr G Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, Res Bitch CC : COOPER Mr & Mrs J M Ancojo Chasing Wishes,  Best Puppy :  MILLER Miss K F Feorlig Versace, Best Veteran : HANCOCKS Mrs C Caswell Fairystory. A catering assistant was taken away by ambulance with scalding, but is expected to make a full recovery. The fire services were in attendance as a precaution. The Chief Fire Officer praised the decision by Secretary, Steve Hall to clear the showground of exhibitors and dogs for the safety and welfare of all concerned.

Elizabeth Patrick has been working hard on the website of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club of Scotland, along with the photos taken at shows, she now inserts video clips of the BOB and the Best Puppy challenges, it is especially nice when you can’t get to the show and lets you see the exciting final moments. If you have web access then check out www.scotpapnews.blogspot.com/ .

I was really looking forward to going to Windsor Ch. Show this coming weekend, it is always such a nice show, however I hadn’t planned on falling in the garden and breaking my leg – as if this year hasn’t had enough problems Ive now got the pleasure of a plaster cast for the next eight weeks. So no driving, no beach – perfect timing!

Let me some Open show results.

I am pleased to report that it appears that Sue Jones is on the mend. I had a telephone call from a member of staff at Sue's local cottage hospital telling me that she had been released from the West Suffolk Hospital to convalesce at the local hospital. In fact the lady to whom I spoke was a 'doggy' person and told me she was taking in her Dog Paper's and reading to Sue all the Papillon news. Anyone who would like to contact Sue can in fact telephone her at the Hospital (the lady who phoned me was at pains to point out that the number is an ordinary BT one and charged at ordinary BT rates, not the higher rates some hospital phones are charged at) and the phone there can be passed on to Sue, the number is 01787 379106. Alternatively if you want to write or send a card the address is Mrs Sue Jones, Walnut Tree Hospital, Walnut Tree Lane, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 1BE. I am sure we all hope that Sue continues to improve and can go home before too long.

I hear Phil Shirley had a fall and has broken his ankle, hopefully it won't be too long before he is literally back on his feet. Next time Phil take a little more water with the drink!!!

At Windsor Dog CC and BOB went to Jenny Scovell's Frasermar Icicle at Caswell, I believe this is his first CC. Bitch CC went to Jo Davidson Poston's Spinillons Saffire JW Sh.CM, this was her third CC thus giving her her title subject to KC confirmation. Reserves went to Mr and Mrs B Cochrane's Glenscot Happy Tartan Lad At Cavillon Sh Cm in dogs and Ann and John Cooper's Ancojo Chasing Wishes in bitches. BP was Ann and Ruth Weston's Powdermill Touch Of Fortune.

Finally congratulation to Anna Fraser (Bonmeshay Papillons) on the arrival for her second Great Grand Child, Arron John. Anna's Granddaughter and baby are both doing well.

Congratulations to Kirsty Miller whose Feorlig Versace won the Catherine Sutton Memorial Puppy Dog Stakes at Windsor and then took overall Best Puppy on the day. Always nice to hear of success for the breed in these competitions. For those of us old enough to remember Catherine Sutton was such a well known and respected name in the world of dogs and that must make this win extra special.

I was sorry to have missed Winsdor Ch. Show which was held in fine weather after the quagmire of last year. Miss V Hourihane judged the breed and found her winners in: Dog CC & BOB: SCOVELL Mrs J. Frasermar Icicle at Caswell, Res. Dog CC : COCHRANE Mr & Mrs B Glenscot Happy Tartan Lad At Cavillon Sh Cm, Bitch CC : DAVIDSON-POSTON Mrs J. Powdermill Touch Of Fortune, Best Veteran : HANCOCKS Mrs C Caswell Fairystory. Congratulations to all the winners, especially to Jo Davidson-Poston for taking the third and crowing CC for S. Saffire, Jo was pleased to hear the same weekend Saffire’s Sire: Powdermill Sweet Touch Spinillons won BOB and Group 3 at The Udden international Show in the Netherlands . Also at Windsor a great result for Kirsty Miller in the Puppy Stakes where: Feorlig Versace won best puppy overall on the day from a very large entry.

Some exciting news for Sue Morrell and Thes. Teague from over in Ireland, Eilish Neally writes: ‘ I am delighted to report that Ire.Ch.Temelora Nichole (Phalene) won her 7th Green Star yesterday at Kilkenny & District Canine Club Championship Show. Tammy is bred & owned by Mrs. Sue Morrell & Mrs. Thesbina Teague. Tammy is presented & shown in Ireland by myself. She attended 8 shows here, won 7 green stars & 1 Res. green star and is the top winning Phalene in Ireland so far this year’. Another Phalene which is going from strength to strength is Elendil Alouette who recently won her Belgian Junior winner title.

This weekend will be World show in Sweden and I expect there will be a large entry for Papillon & Phalene, I have not heard of anyone travelling over from the UK so will be interesting to see if any UK dogs are shown there.

Just time to thank all of you that sent get-well wishes and cards on hearing I have broken my leg, it really is most inconvenient and you don’t realise how much you rely on getting around easily.

Remember the Fun-Day and Agility show of the South of England Papillon Club takes place on the 19th July at Bradfield, there is a tremendous entry for Agility this year and all credit must go to Denise and Alec Welsh who organise this event. I do hope I am gong to be able to get there. It really is one of the best events of the year and attracts such a friendly crowd. Members will have had their flyers; full details are also available on www.southpapclub.co.uk . The Club has had quite a drain on its welfare account in the past few months and hopes to be able to rectify this and raise quite a sum from the various Fun-Day events, please remember to bake something, make some jam, or bring along something for the produce stall. Raffle prizes will be most appreciated. The Club members are always so generous and in these days of ever rising prices, especially Petrol I know it isn’t easy and it seems we are always asking for more; however it really does make a difference so any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Our Dogs The SGM called by the South Wales Papillon Club committee was due to take place after judging at the S W K A Championship Show and I understand that very late in the day a decision was made by the committee to cancel this meeting. There appears to be some confusion as to why this decision was taken but I am given to understand that an announcement was made cancelling the meeting and that following that announcement a number of folk who had intended to attend left the showground. It would seem that after this it was then decided to hold an 'informal' meeting to discuss the matter. Whether the reasons for calling this SGM have or have not been resolved seems to be in some doubt but it does leave some puzzling questions. Having stated the meeting was to be cancelled resulting in some members leaving it would seem less than sensible to then hold an informal meeting to discuss the matter and I am sure those folk who had left will be rather disappointed that they were effectively prevented from airing their own views. Quite what an informal meeting could achieve I don't know. More importantly having officially called such a meeting under the Rules of the Club, Rules laid down as a requirement by the Kennel Club, one wonders whether it is acceptable for the meeting simply to be cancelled at the very last minute particularly if the matter remains unresolved. Would not the correct procedure have been at the very least to open the meeting, announce if a resolution to the problem had been found and formally have the meeting closed rather than to just cancel it. Can a SGM be cancelled at the whim of the committee (who of course had called the meeting in the first place). No doubt the Kennel Club will give a ruling on this.

It does seem to me that this whole affair has been very badly handled from the start. The underlying reasons for this problem are clearly the fault of the club itself, whatever excuses are given the fact remains that an error was made over the awarding of the trophy in question. It is not simply a question of whose side anyone is on, it is a question of what is right and what is wrong. Even at this late stage let us hope that at long last some common sense prevails and that this is resolved swiftly and properly, it has gone on far too long.

At SWKA Dog CC and BOB went to Pat Beadle's Ch Bodebi Success Story For Bedellus, Bitch CC to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, Res Dog CC to Joe Magri's Frasermar Cool As Ice With Rozamie and Res Bitch CC to Eileen Roberts and carline Smith's Bodebi Oriana To Rayol. I was pleased to hear from Sue Jones' daughter Jan asking me to pass on Sue's thanks to everyone who has sent cards and letters. At East of England Bitch CC and BOB went to Kirsty Miller's Feorlig Midnight In Georgia JW ShCM, I believe her second CC and if I am correct her first came at East of England last year, so I am sure this must be a favourite show for Kirsty. Starting on a very sad note this week, the news that Terry Thorn died last week. He judged the breed many times, I always found him to be a most considerate judge, more importantly his understanding of the breed standard was evident in his critiques, which were always written in the ring in front of the dog and often appeared in the following weeks press, there was none of the “nice head moved well” nonsense, I always felt he gave “Good value”, compared to the judges that can just about be bothered to examine the dog. He will be sadly missed; the breed and “dogdom” in general have lost a very good judge.

Some news of last years runner-up Top Papillon Male: The Gleniren / Sunshoo Showteam are have announced: “ Manne”, UK / Fin / Bel CH Siljans My Man, after having had tremendous success here in the UK, Winning the prestigious title of Toy Group Winner 2007 East of England Championship Show and Toy Group3 at Manchester Championship Show 2008, has now moved back to Europe to enable Manne to further his showing career, he will be staying for the present moment with The Costalina Papillons in Belgium. Manne won a total of 8 DCC / 5 BOB / 5 RDCC.

Phalenes: Roberts & Smith's Serenglade Flagship At Rayol DGS, Mooney's Ch Aporia Chiassoso An Ch CW08 BGS, BOB, Mooney's Glenscot The Lovable Lassie RBGS. At Bray Ch Show (Judge J Simpson UK), Papillons: Carroll's & Newman's Denemore Icons Ruben DGS, Lee's Ch Bodebi Ray Of Success RDGS, Carroll's & Newman's Ch Denemore Icons Butterfly BGS, BOB, Mooney's Omaonaig Midnight Fire RBGS. Phalenes (Judge Mr Beare IRL), Sloan's Multi Ch Austrene Academy Award DGS, BOB, Roberts & Smith's Serenglade Flagship At Rayol RDGS, Mooney's Ch Aporia Chiassoso An Ch CW08 BGS, Mooney's Glenscot The Lovable Lassie RBGS. Well done to all the winners and do keep the results coming.

Great news from Sussie Jone’s daughter Jan: “My mother would like you to pass this message on to people who know her. She is recovering well after her broken hip and later heart failure, and has had a very successful visit home with the Occupational Therapist. Susie Jones thanks all the kind people who have sent cards and letters and have called her. Unfortunately, due to her poor eyesight she finds it impossible to reply. She hopes that soon she will be home.” Lets hope Susie continues to progress.

Some news of a successful fun show: At Thames Valley Hospice’s annual Summer Event this year with a ‘Grease’ theme, a Fun Dog Show was held for the first time, Half-way through judging Janet Chandler gave way to Fran McWade who had been stewarding for her. Fran with Papillon Buttons gave a terrific demonstration of dog handling for the Show-ring. A large number of children were inspired to take part in the handling classes that followed, judged by Fran, who gave lots of encouragement to the unsure. Buttons’ dam Frilly, and film and T V star Dee-Dee, were loaned several times to would be competitors and behaved themselves very well.

All the children received a ribbon badge from South of England Papillon Club and a dog towel from Royal Canin. The winners received a large Rosette from S of E Pap Club and a magnificent Dictionary of Dogs and other goodies from our very generous Sponsor, Royal Canin. Best in Show was a beautiful Malamute called Mir who belonged to Windsor resident Dawn Chojnacki.

At the East of England Ch.
