At Merseyside Toy Dog Open show, Miss V Horan judged the breed and found Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Lanson’s Denemore Life of Reilly for Cantoverde, who went on to win Toy Puppy Group 3. At NorthWest Canine Open show, the judge was Mr N Savage, he found BOB in Burn’sand Lacy’s: Paplysh Ezekiel Son of Ablou and Best Pppy in :Lanson’s Denemore Life of Reilly for Cantoverde, who went on to take Toy Puppy Group 4.

There was a very large turnout of members for the AGM of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club at Napton, which was not unexpected due to comments recently made on pap-net, many members felt they wanted to attend to seek more information on the proposal on agenda from Papillon Rescue UK.

Owning to the fact, it was felt there may be some issues of conflict, Mr Howard Ogden was invited to Chair the meeting.

I expect the Acting Secretary Kevin Arrowsmith will be issuing a release of details of the meeting in due course.

Basically what happened was: after discussion, the Proposer agreed to withdraw the proposal, to allow the Trustees of Papillon Rescue UK – (PRUK) to enter into dialogue with the Committee who can then inform the membership of all the facts, to allow the membership to make an informed decision when the proposal is re-presented.

From a personal point of view, I do think this issue could have been handled by the Club in a much better way. The club was severely lacking by not keeping the members completely informed, allowing rumours to circulate and in the case where large sums of money are being dealt with, the priority must be to let the members know exactly what is going on.

I am in principle of Welfare (I prefer the name Welfare to Rescue) to be run as a separate unit from the club, but naturally the proposal could only be passed when all (the PBDC club members) have had the full picture, especially the (PRUK) code of practice, the position of where other clubs welfare units stand in relation to asking for assistance when necessary, and most importantly the way decisions will be made and how we (the PBDC club members) will be kept informed.

After the meeting, there was buffet laid out for those staying on for the Phalene seminar. The seminar was very well supported, with Mrs L Greenslade officiating, the breeding of Phalenes was not included in discussion, it mainly concentrated on the set and carriage of the ear in Phalenes. Assisting Mrs Greenslade was Mesdames , Morrell, Roberts and Savage. Mrs Morrell gave a presentation on the history of the Phalene, followed by Mrs Roberts who gave a comparison on the various world-wide standards. Several Phalenes were on display, with different types of ear set and carriage.

Names were collected in support of sending a request to the Kennel Club to ask that, where known, the letters (PH) should be added to the names of Phalene dogs and bitches on all KC Pedigrees. I think this seminar was a start of what perhaps could be expanded into a more in-depth discussion on the breeding of Phalenes and the expanding of the Phalene gene pool, to assist those now embarking on their own Phalene breeding programmes. Which if the current increase in the number of Phalenes being shown is anything to go by, I would feel this is very necessary.
