21 March 2010 - Our Dogs

Members of the various breed clubs have been shocked to hear of the sudden death of Carolyne Alward-Chebsey, several messages of sympathy have been posted on Papnet and I believe there was a two minutes silence held at the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Open Show, Queenie Bruce read a poem and members were invited to wear a rose in Carolyne’s memory. As yet there has been no announcement regarding the funeral arrangements. There are some interim changes which members of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club should take note: The Club’s puppy register will be looked after by Mrs. Michelle Fisher and her details are as follows:- 147 Ferry Road, Hullbridge, Essex, SS5 6ET. Tel. 01702 231368 email: ellmara@tiscali.co.uk , entries for the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Championship Show to be held on Sunday, 11th April, 2010 should now be sent to:- Mrs.Pauline Coughlan, 9 Finchall Croft, Hampton Coppice, Solihull, West Midlands, B92 9QP.

There will be book of condolence at Crufts for anyone wishing to record a message in Carolynes memory, messages may also be sent to Sue Morrell from those not attending Crufts, also, if anyone wishes to send cards these can be sent to Mrs. Bubbles Wood-Davis, Gosford, 51A Orchard Place, Harvington, Evesham, Worcs, WR11 8NF and not to Carolyne`s home address..

To add to the Club’s problems, I hear committee member, Joe Magree has broken his leg which is now in plaster, I am sure we all wish Joe a speedy recovery.

It was nice to hear from Alan and Liz Bartram who are having a lovely run with their new Puppy - Burghbridge Black Shadow, who at Sutton Coldfield & District CA took Best Puppy & Toy Group 4, at Birmingham & District Toy Dog Society took Best Puppy, Reserve Best of Breed & Best Puppy in Show and at Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club took Best Puppy Dog, not a bad start for a youngster, many congratulations.

Debbie Burns had some lovely news about her export Petitchien's Alfie Moon at Beautyfly VDH Junior Ch., Alfie, gained V1+CAC and CACIB at the Munich International Dog Show.

At Swindon & District Open Show, Mrs B. Bartlett judged the breed and found her BOB in Borg’s Elendil Rob Roy who went on to win Toy Group 4 and B Puppy in Sparke’s Pinkmead Sea Breeze who went on to win Toy Puppy Group 4.

At the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Open Show, Mr Brian Claydon (Brymarden) judged the breed and found his principle winers in: Best Dog & BIS Robbs, Gleniren Sunset in Seattle Sunshoo, Best Bitch RBIS Millers, Feorlig Under My Spell at Shazzabars, Res. Best Bitch, Best Puppy Bitch & BPIS Robbs, Gleniren Sunset Kisses, Res Best Dog Bruce & Bruce Jackson’s Tijuana Teddy Boy
Best Puppy Dog Bartrums Burghbridge Black Shadow, Best Veteran in Show Maskell Kazkell DayDream, Best Junior Handler in Show Miss R Thompson.

At Birmingham Toy Dog Society`s Open Show, there was also one miniuts silence held across all rings in respect of Carolyne. Mrs. Sue Morrell (Temelora) judged the breed and found BOB in Feorlig Versace who was short-listed to the last 6 for BIS and RBOB and Best Puppy in Burghbridge Black Shadow who went on to win Best Puppy in Show. Well done everyone this week.

How sad it was to hear the news that Roger and Jean Banfield have lost their Ch. Kingshaven Miss Molly - known as Mol. Molly was a fabulous showgirl, very flashy and always happy in the ring, it is not surprising she won 32 CC’s during her show career, it would have been hard to overlook her in a line-up. I am sure Roger and Jean will miss her tremendously but what lovely memories Molly leaves them with.

The first day of Crufts , oops sorry it is now to be called DFS Crufts, was very exciting for some Papillon owners, it was great to watch the agility competition on the internet coverage, Debbie Goodwin won the Novice Cup with Temelora Accidendal Magic. Dawn Weaver and her Papillon “Puzzle” won the mini/maxi pairs, she also came second with her apricot poodle in the mini/maxi. Great results and just fabulous watching the Papillons flying over the jumps. Many congratulations to you both.

I am hoping to go to DFS Crufts and will bring a full report next week.

Phil Shirley
