18 June 2010 - Dog World

Fifty Champagne celebrations for The Butterfly Dog Club of Scotland who partied at their Champ show on their Golden Jubilee anniversary of the club. The day was blessed with glorious weather with the sun shining brightly. The committee had plenty of surprises in store for the exhibitors. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there but sources have told of a light, airy venue with superb parking facilities. For those that had a long journey full breakfast and lunches were available in a well catered restaurant. So what a good start to the day, everyone parked up, fed and watered.
The club had organised a commemorative gift of a tear shaped crystal etched with a Papillon head study for all exhibitors. What a thoughtful keepsake.

Ruth Johnston had been beeving away for months collating a photographic record of the club’s history over the years. Photos from the clubs inception and all the shows to the present day showing all the principal winners. The junior handlers were given their own section showing juniors at the beginning of their handling career to where and what they are doing in their adult years.
I would have loved to have seen this display as I am sure it would have been very interesting.
The SOEPC had kindly donated four bottles of champagne to the principal winners of which the club was very grateful and Royal Canin continued their sponsorship of the show.

The officers and committee would like to give further thanks to the following people that helped make the show such a success. Hazel Barr (Barallan) for Sashes to BIS, RBIS & BPIS, John and Ann Cooper (Ancojo) for the Plaques donated to all class winners, Mrs Mary Fraser (Fraserdene) £10 cash prize for Best Phalene in Show, Mrs Joyce Finlayson (Sharjoy) for the Lucky Ring number Prize, Mrs. Queenie Bruce & Mrs. Amanda Bruce-Jackson (Tijuana) £20 donation.
The clubs judge Mrs Liz Anderson (Northlyte) who kindly gave a judges gift of towels beautifully embroidered with Papillon and Phalene heads to all class winners and the hand painted Agate's for our BIS, RBIS, BPIS & BVIS.
To everyone that made the raffle table groan under the weight of prizes grateful appreciation and any one purchasing raffle tickets had the chance of winning a LCD television. Even a decorated cake for all to enjoy, sound like one special day.

The principal winners of this special day were as follows: DCC / BIS Victor & Mclaughlin’s CH Lafford fly me too Farleybane JW, RDCC / RBIS Alfadl, Loye, McKay & Berg’s Am/Can CH Arkeno’s Ears to You, BCC Skelton’s Adnamashan Moment in Time JW, RBCC Hill’s Caraideas Game Reflection, BPIS Smith’s Papplewick Pretty in Pink at Adiniken and BV Macgregor’s Pyatshaw White Heat. Best junior handler of the day was Calum Thornton.

Sad news that Jean (Granasil Papillons, Cavs & Chins) has passed away. Jean has fought so bravely after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease last year. Jean loved her dogs and took an interest in whatever was going on in the dog world. Raising money for the Humberside Cavelier Rescue with the yearly calendar she produced. She will be sadly missed, sincere condolences to both family and friends.

Sad new also from Scotland that Andrew Doig (Cadogan) had passed away whilst in a Dundee hospital. Our thoughts go to Alec’s wife, two sons and daughter. If you wish to send a card the address is 77, Arbirlot Rd West, Arbroath, Angus, DD11 2JE.

A reminder that the entries close for the PBDC Joint Champ show on the 21st June to be sent to Pauline Coughlan, 9 Finchall Croft, The Oaks, Hampton Coppice, Solihull, West Midlands, B92 9QP.

At the show the club have made arrangements for a vet to be present for eye testing on the day. This has to be booked in advance and need at least twenty five dogs to be able to receive a discounted rate (this discount will be passed on to owners). Due to the club having to commit to at least 25 dogs we require bookings in advance from exhibitors. If you would like to book please contact Joe Magri on 01353 723469 / joseph.magri@sky.com please note that all dogs must be micro-chipped prior to being eye tested, we hope to offer this service too.

Help on the day of the show the 18th July, if anybody is available to lend a hand on the day the committee would be very grateful, if you feel that you could spare an hour or maybe more, please contact either Kevin Arrowsmith 01353 723469 / arrowbien@sky.com or Miss Helen Wheeler 07760286492 / wheelsie@live.co.uk.

New from the club’s secretary Kevin Arrowsmith that Debbie Burns (Petitchien) has offered to co-ordinate the newsletter for the Papillon Butterfly Dog Club.
