23 April 2010 - Dog World

Silence is golden and speaks volumes. A sad day for the PBDC at their first show following the passing of the clubs secretary Carolyne Allward-Chebsey.

It proved to be a landmark day when Papillon exhibitors joined hands and came together in unison standing in silence. Making this a show committee and exhibitors attending will remember for a long time.

Praise indeed must go to the clubs acting secretary Kevin Arrowsmith for undertaking the position at such short notice with a championship show looming over the hillside. A daunting task indeed and a job even superman might not have taken the glasses off to slip into the famous suit.

Even so the acting secretary and committee conducted a well run show in the most difficult circumstances. It was never going to be an easy show and as the day unfolded it proved to be challenging but they all coped admirably.
This year the show had moved into the main hall and not the cricket pitch hall. The two rings were laid out very well and each of a good size.

Unfortunately at home here the day before the show we had a power cut and the electricity only resumed at 9.30pm. So with a bucket full of fairy dust and will power I burnt the midnight oil preparing the Pap crew.
A nice tribute by the committee bringing flower pins for all to wear in honour of their late secretary and invited exhibitors to cut a bloom to take home with them.

At the end of the day a new class was introduced as the Special Lorah’s Open & Bitch Memorial Trophy. This will be held each in year in remembrance of Carolyne.

The sun was shining and we were all set for a good day.

Miss Karen Farrell (Bluejays) dressed in blue made her appearance in the bitch ring for their classes. A first time ticket appointment what a huge honour to be given the appointment of the Papillon Clubs Championship show. It must have seemed a dream come true, likened to winning the lottery but with responsibilities when the appointment came through the post. So many congratulations.

Miss Farrell found her principal winners to be: BCC Davidson-Poston’s Ch Spinillons Saffire JW shCM, RBCC Munn’s Jap CH Smile Line Silenzio Farfalle Sonia.

Whilst over in the dog ring the Junior Handling classes had commenced with Mary Whitehill judging. Her 6-11yrs winner being Sara McGrath and the 12-16yrs winner Jonathan Wells. Jonathan then went on to take BJH.

Following this the dog classes began by airing a Scottish flavour with our dog judge looking extremely smart dressed in full Scottish regalia. Breed specialist Mr Ted Whitehill continued his undertaken task going over the dogs with a caring attitude to both exhibitors and dogs.

By the end of the dog judging we had a new Champion called George and a very jubilant Ruth Weston as her dog Powdermill Touch the Stars had gained its third cc and claimed his title. To put the cherry on the top he was then awarded BIS and received rapturous applause. So many congratulations.

The principal winners for the dogs were as follows DCC/BIS Weston’s Powdermill Touch the Stars, RDCC Munn’s Feorlig Moonlight Shadow at Ringlands.

The referee Mary Whitehill was called into the ring to decide BIS which went to the dog continuing on the RDCC then went on to take RBIS. Completing the days awards BP Munn’s Mad about Saffron at Ringlands and Best Breeder Sue Morrell and Thesbina Teaque (Temelora).

During the lunch break the Clubs annual 2009 awards were presented. Mrs Bubbles Wood- Davis the clubs President presented the trophies and certificates. Sue Morrell was given the task of David Bailey with the camera and the presentations commenced.

It was nice to see the winning dogs picking up there trophies with their owners and having their pictures taken. Starlet was at the show this being a special occasion for her as it was the fourth year she had picked up the Top Papillon Award.
